Re: How is wave height measured in Australia?
Fair enough.
According to the bogus Surfline Scale that is supposed to be common sense for older surfers who understand an imperial foot it should be 10-12ft.
Face heights are clearly that high.
So, it seems common sense rules.

Re: How is wave height measured in Australia?
Can someone tell Steve Surfline is calling it 4-6’.
Not actually an argument. Everyone has agreed it’s a bullshit scale that everyone uses.

Re: How is wave height measured in Australia?
Looks like even Surfline have abandoned their own scale.
They are calling Sunset 4-5ft 2OH.
According to their OG scale 2OH should be 10ft.
2OH + should be 10-12ft.
We are done here gentlemen.

Well yeah. The Hawaiian Scale used in Hawaii.
Steve’s end of argument…commonsense rules “argument” is laughable.
No one is arguing that everyone doesn’t use the scale.
Just that it’s totally illogical.

Re: How is wave height measured in Australia?
When I was living in swvic, a mate who lived a bit away from the coast would sometimes call to ask about swell size. If I said 4 ft to describe 4 ft faces, he'd have probably punched me

Re: How is wave height measured in Australia?
On the Surfline website you can select either face height or traditional (1/2 of face height) as your preferred wave scale.
The default in Australia and NZ is traditional (1/2 of face height). Face height is the default in the rest of the world.

It’s funny how conformist and doctrinaire surfers can be.
The amount of vitriol and emphatic adherence to perceived norms never ceases to amuse me.
See also the refusal to wear rash vests.

Hawaii is the rest of the world and the commentary (using Surfline forecasts and reports) just used "traditional" all day long.
You're digging yourself a pretty big hole here Foamy.
10-12ft face Sunset got called 5-7ft all day long, including by Surfline.
Lets acknowledge reality and move on, hey?

Re: How is wave height measured in Australia?
No point trying to have a rational discussion with Steve, Foamy. I learnt that a long time ago.
Hawaiian Wave Scale in Hawaii?
Hardly the rest of the rest of the world.

Re: How is wave height measured in Australia?
I’m not arguing with reality, Steve. I’m just giving the reality of the Surfline surf height preference settings as stated on a Surfline web page dated a few months ago. I thought it was of idle interest as you talking about Surfline. See link below.
I wasn’t arguing any point, Steve. You seem to have a problem with diversity.

Re: How is wave height measured in Australia?
Fine.
Just telling you how Surfline called DOH Sunset today.
4-6ft.
So if Surfline itself (and Swellnet) uses the commonly used method, can we at least accept it"s the commonly used method?
Just trying to find some common ground here mate.

Re: How is wave height measured in Australia?
Can't help myself.
Calling any object which is double overhead, 4-6ft is just fucking ludicrous.
Regardless of how many people and "authorities" do it.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.
