Re: Where did you surf today ?
Old school surf forecasts involved looking at isometric charts and seeing how far away the low was. Further away by default meant longer period but so what?
Unless you are somewhere like Indo, Fiji or Hawaii it’s largely irrelevant to the average punter.

Are you suggesting swell period is irrelevant to the average punter?

I'm just an average punter and swell period is pretty bloody important to me.

You aren’t the room Yuke You are just a wonky cafe table with a missing rubber pad on the end of one leg.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Well I know it’s important as an element when I’m surfing. Is it important to me in planning to go surfing?
Not really.

Beans, look at Seabreeze. Tells you everything you need to know without having to even start your car up.
It is perfectly relevant to the average parker, i mean punter.
Simples graphs. No need for marine science degrees.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
No i just decided to look in that one instance as you replied after my comment.
Maybe check swell period moving onwards, you might not get skunked all the fucking time.

Qld Govt has great wave monitoring sites from Tweed Heads north.
Graphs give everything you need.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Thanks for the heads up, Trev. Who needs to know more than wave heights, wind direction and tides?
ISO Charts for long range.
I reckon I could still look at Cook Island and have a fair idea of everywhere that would have a wave between Burleigh and Lennox Head.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Well, I use those graphs BECAUSE they show the period.
I can tell the wind direction and a fair assessment of wave height by the sound of the surf I can hear from my bedroom window.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Really? So if you saw a 15 second period south swell arriving tomorrow it wouldn't impact your plans to surf Bondi?Beanpole wrote: ↑Wed May 25, 2022 7:05 pmWell I know it’s important as an element when I’m surfing. Is it important to me in planning to go surfing?

Re: Where did you surf today ?
That scene at the Bommie a few days ago was magnificent, it was a 17/18s swell, near 4,000kJ, 15' plus as it jacked up, 4 or 5 waves in the set, with 6 surfers at the bottom, chucking their boards and waiting for the guillotine to drop, me the only person watching from the cliff top.

I think Beany just goes down to the beach and has a look. It’s terrible behaviour, I know.
