Get Sir Butt and Robroy on here to explain themselves.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
I went out yesterday at 12pm. Paddled up nearly to Padang as I waited for a lull. The set was tapering off so I started paddling out, it went pretty well for a while, nearly out before the next set but got caught by what was to be one of the bigger sets of the day.
Within 15 minutes and at least 30 waves on the head I was a k up the coast and caught in the near shore rip that accelerates around the little headland separating Impossibles and Bingin. Sucked almost to the end of Bingin I paddled out through the channel and started the 2k paddle back.
Got into position at 1pm after one hour of being worked and paddling. Only about 10 out, I sat about 50m outside having a rest. Spotted a big set on its way down from outside corner so stayed where I was. It was probably the biggest set of the day, I paddled another 50m out and was the only one to make it over them. Only 5 out after that.
Caught a medium size double overhead with no competition but it closed out after about 100m. And there I quickly was again, in that fcuking river flowing up the coast.
I proned in on the next wall of white water.
Head to double and glassy this morning, one guy out at 6:30am, no one else even watching.

Tony Butt is behind the times.
Re: Where did you surf today ?
A lot of surfers seem to be somewhat mentally challenged when estimating wave height.
Here's a video that explains how to obtain a measure of the average foot which should then be useful when estimating wave height.

I think him and his imaginary kilojoule measuring friends should be a shoe-in.

I love how everyone's paying out cranky while holding firm to a totally abstract and subjective measurement system themselves.

Manly, small but not crowded around lunchtime, got 2 good waves to make the effort worthwhile.

Yeah, I guess a bit of east would have been getting in but it's a south east swell. A couple of people said it was as good as Bondi gets. Shoulder high with the occasional bigger sets. Nice banks.
