Re: Where did you surf today ?
Yep good times alright. Six of us, 3 in each car. Two now RIP, one lives on his catamaran in Langkawi now, one has lived in Penong ever since, one lives in the Philippines, one has a whiting licence in Port Lincoln.
My Falcon I bought in Perth in 79. Almost every good wave in SA was at the end of a corrugated dirt road, and that car floated over them like a limo.
And the other car, Stevey Kopcheff hamming it up for me with his EH. Complete with rust holes covered in masking tape then spray painted with a can.

Love the old photos mm.
The trick to corrugated dirt is 80+ km/hr
Hopefully it’s a straight track.

I was on the Goldy for the first couple of years of South Straddy.
Never had such an absolute tube-fest before or after.
First year you could surf it with whoever paddled over with you.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
82 I had quit my job button dyeing in Sydney and come home to dump my gear before going to Sri Lanka. I had an MP board that had sat on the upper balcony in Surry Hills for 18 months with hardly any use. Single fin round tail with the fin hanging over the tail. It was a popular thing for barrel riding boards like this one but made them difficult to do anything else on. Went out at Kirra and took off on a dredger. The nose dug in momentarily on the take off then I made the bottom turn as the wave pitched. Fin just held as it was designed to do and I was in a solid dredging barrel for the length of the point. Still the best wave I ever got out there and way better than anything I rode in SE Asia.

Lolz, when I did extensive travelling through WA the graded roads were much better driven at speed so wheels skip over them. Don't take bends at speed though, wheels will dig and you will flip the car.

I have been on some corrugations in a straight line at speed when the car just starts yawing

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Nothing to do with the hands, at the right resonant frequency the car just starts drifting like on black ice.
Re: Where did you surf today ?
Thats because the car did not respect you
