Re: skateboarding ...
The skate crews actively meet up and skate together at different locales. It can be kind a jam. So different to surfing.

You reckon?
Kids here get together all the time to surf together.
My son is doing it right now.
As they do in most coastal towns.

Re: skateboarding ...
Yeah, groms do do that. But adults try to find the gaps in the crowds, not seek them out.

Re: skateboarding ...
How many adults skating?
it's a kid thing.
That is where it is definitely different to surfing.
Most surfers now are over 30, hardly any skaters are.

Concrete harder than water.
And yet Skateboarding is commercially valued higher than surfing.
However, I don’t see much difference between the sports for under 20 year olds. They all congregate to connect.

went for a roll today at St Clair bowl, western Sydney. didn't take any pics but found some on the interwebs. pretty decent set-up, good for flow and mixing up lines. if I lived close by I'd hit it up regularly
then out of morbid curiosity went for short drive further to Bidwill. man, what a dire and sorry place that is. it'd suck being born into that.

I assembled a 41" longboard a little while ago. Bamboo Drop Through deck (no pivot) and some huge 90mm super soft 78A wheels on Caliber trucks
I wanted something I could do when the surf is flat that keeps me moving but is more enjoyable than running on a treadmill. I was never into skating as a kid but I really enjoy this thing, it's super comfortable to ride, easily absorbs pavement cracks, sticks, stones etc.. There is a great bike trail where I live that runs for a few kms along a creek. Mostly quite flat too so while this thing can go pretty quick it's never too fast for me.

Yeah, it's pretty fun. Gotta get mine back out there.
Re: skateboarding ...
I've got this little beauty.
Actually my daughter's but she hasn't used it for years. My grandson had a lot of fun on it last visit just before COVID hit.
I'm so accident prone I'm too wary to use it anywhere but the driveway.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

Sugar or sand in the resin for grip, normally.
Re: skateboarding ...
Took the longboard skateboard out this morning on a rail trail, was rolling down a moderate slope, went round a bend and there was a wooden bridge!
Tried to run out of it but ended up sliding on my wrist guards, lost a decent bit of bark on the elbows and got some friction burns on my knees and stomach through my clothes.
Stings a bit, and the worst part is I tore some holes in my vest. Without a Patagonia puffy vest I can't really consider myself a Bay Area local!

Reading this makes me want to get my longboard skateboard out for a ride again. It's been ages. There's no obvious places to ride near me unfortunately
