Re: Where did you surf today ?
"I question most calls re: wave size..."
So everyone else Is mostly wrong and you're right ?
"I guess I undercall waves by my own standard a lot.
So you've got your own standard but you don't often use it ?

Not by the wave face standard, Steve. Probably tend to accept your size calls....give or take a foot

RNP. 4 foot. solid, clean but a fairly shifty and washy swell that's on its way down. Still some ok runs here and there.

Well I reckon measuring wave heights is communal; it's part of the grand and continuing narrative we all construct within surf communities.
So and so says something so and so reckons something else......a consensus emerges; yep , it was 8-10ft with a couple bigger bombs and that is how the day is recorded and goes into the history books. It's never the result of an individual call: that is too prone to error.
Pretty ingenious if you ask me.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
True.....that's why I always stick with the way we used to do it when I was a grommet. Of course if the other person wasn't there it was always better than where they were surfing and 2ft bigger.steve shearer wrote: ↑Sat Sep 02, 2017 10:52 amWell I reckon measuring wave heights is communal; it's part of the grand and continuing narrative we all construct within surf communities.

Bondi about 4ft as well Banks are weird everywhere around here after the big seas. Lots of fat outside banks with dredgy close out shories. Still fun.

back reef on the low tide. head high and glassy but the 2 swells in the water didn't help. Wonky. water is crystal clear.

Out in the water by myself at dawn for an hour before a handful of other surfers arrived. Glassy conditions, 10 wave sets, step laddering from head and a half to double, sometimes more. 20 minute wait between sets. Low tide just about all day.
Westerly swell so pretty well unmakeable though.
Ulus had 90 surfers on racetrack yesterday when I looked.
I do have, some black boardies and a blue shirt, and a similar board, but that combination would be early this year or even last year, but not this trip.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Had about 45min on some fun lefts and rights at longy before the northerly blew the crap out of it. That'll have to do me for another couple of weeks

This reemergence of the wave height thing is going to see a lot of ToTY nominations. Keep it up.

Fun size is all we need know aj.
Re: Where did you surf today ?
Wellllllll. It's only due to the one single person on here that continually struggles with it, and apparently has done for decades now.
Re: Where did you surf today ?
Not so fast, hatchy, there's the OTHER person who can't let it go.
