Anyone ridden a Mackie side cut fish?
Just wondering how they go generally, twin or quad don't mind.
Re: Anyone ridden a Mackie side cut fish?
Damn, they look so nice I hope they go well.
Never ridden a mackie but only heard good things.

I've had a couple of Mackies, one a keeper a mate is borrowing like forever and one I didn't like to much, but those side cuts, I gots to know.
Re: Anyone ridden a Mackie side cut fish?
i've ridden a few. One was a 5'3. More lis in outline - super fun. The sidecut i rode was a twin keel, 5'8, but too chunky for me. Still had a couple of good waves on it. I'd love a small one, nice and foiled.

Cheers Batoes, the ones I have fondled are chunky as you say. What's the feel of the board through turns?

Why did you have to go and start this thread Davros.

I haven't ridden a trad fish for years since I had a southpoint epoxy 5'10 twin keel. Would be interested to hear if there's anyone out there that surfs a sidecut as their daily driver.

From memory (2010)...the lis style felt really fishy. Long drawn out, but still quite connected. The 5'8 was an epoxy and felt more performance, even though it was bigger. It felt like you could smack a lip and get a few more turns in because of the narrow tail. It was light, too - pretty sure it was eps. I'd get another - of either - for sure. They've got a few at Finbox at Thirroul. I sold my quartet to a really nice guy that works there and he has a 5'4 sidecut - he was raving about it, as was Simon Patchett, who has a 5'4 sidecut quad.Davros wrote:Cheers Batoes, the ones I have fondled are chunky as you say. Just toying with the idea so doing some research as Micks boards can be different as you know, I've got a summer board in my future.
Thats great feedback, ta Batoes anything else pops up from the memory banks let us know.

I was fondling a Mackie flex tail at Dripping Wet in a Manly this arvo. Over $1000 seems a bit nuts to drop on such a specialist board but would love to know how that tail feels when releasing the pressure.
Re: Anyone ridden a Mackie side cut fish?
Are they worth the effort Saltman? I guess it's all subjective. I think I know the board, did it have a purple tail channels and was quite big?

Yep that's the one.

Re: Anyone ridden a Mackie side cut fish?
ha ha ....I saw that had a sticker on it "usually 1450" new, but it looked a little beat up. Was watching the sales guy try to flog it a few weeks ago to a punter.
Re: Anyone ridden a Mackie side cut fish?
The outerislands split stringer/V2flex looks like a good compromise between the standard setup and a full on carbon flex tail. Quite simple when you think about it too, and not much more expensive.

They look great. Kind of half hankering to get one except realistically I have all the options covered at the moment.
