I wonder how many shapers use/don't use CAD software?

Re: Twin fins as go-to boards
80% I'd say. There are some who can design in the shaping bay and smash out a shape quicker than a machine or who make handshaping part of their marketing. Machine shapes still take a bit of skill to finish but they do save time and improve repeatability.

Tiger tragic.
Re: Twin fins as go-to boards
Some interesting rumours doing the rounds about Rance’s retirement Buddy. Not so happy times at Tigerland.
Re: Twin fins as go-to boards
Haven’t been following it.
Re: Twin fins as go-to boards
Finished product. Plenty of blemishes in the spray and glassing but overall happy with it.
I stuck these fins in it from a Larry Mabile twinzer set because I already had them, but I’m hoping to get a black set of fcs2 power twins.

Re: Twin fins as go-to boards
Okay, long racy twins with or without channels have now been around long enough to be adopted by a bunch of barely intermediate surfers who don’t have the ability to even vaguely ride them properly. In fact I reckon the majority of surfers don’t have the skill level.
They are far more suited to a Widow Maker. Maker came up as Moma Kerouac
Not to mention every man and his dog taking the back fin out of any old board and expecting it to go better.

Was this one of yours, swivel?swvic wrote: ↑Thu Dec 22, 2016 11:15 pmHope it goes great. In line with something I've just done. Been away for a few days down on the Mornington Peninsula. Went and had a chat with Mick Pierce. He's making me a twinnie. Full fcuking circle. We talked for a couple of hours about all sorts of stuff. He pulled out a template from 1979. First board he ever made me was that template. Little tweak to it and modernised, but it will be the same colour as that first one. He still has the same container of tint. I know it's exactly what I need now my shoulder's fcuked. And I know it'll be fcuking unreal. The man's a master of the craft. Been awhile since I had a proper whiff of where boards are made too. Loved it

Not mine, buddy. Don't recognise it either. Probably knew about 70% of people riding his boards on the MP. Tried to zoom in on the stringer for a name but only have a phone. Will try on a bigger screen in a few days

Says “Leon” on it.
Haven’t been riding that board. Possibly retired it.
Goes good though.
90%+ on my Emery 5’9 and changing between thruster and twin depending on conditions.

Aha. Definitely not mine though and I don't know him. Uncommon name - I've only met a dozen or so others
Cheers for the board update. Only just realised how old those posts are

Re: Twin fins as go-to boards
Anyone using a twin fin (incl tail channels) as a go-to shortboard?
I like twinnies, but mostly only in smaller softer conditions. Though it’s been a while.
Interested to revisit, keen to understand if the tail channels actually do much in terms of extra stability and hold? If not, there’s always the trailer fin option I guess.

Re: Twin fins as go-to boards
I think the best design as a go to daily driver is still the MRs.
Super twin and modern retros.
Channeled twin pins I see a lot on the pointbreaks but not so much on the beach breaks.

Re: Twin fins as go-to boards
Yeah that’s my hesitation re: channel twins. I’d be mostly surfing it in beach breaks
