what about in surf season?

Head high surf would be the norm, at least right?

thats crowded as fcuk on the Bukit.

even those vids of triple OH Balangan had at least 30-40 people out.

So it appears. It's not always that good on overhead days of course. A lot of chargers would think it was pretty fat half the time and would prefer perfect barrels at Padang.
Wouldn't you?

Being old and a complete kook according to Hatchie Ulus would be one of the waves I would have a crack at when its overhead.
Although the flogging and getting back into the cave at high tide might put me off like a lot of people.

That's sounds right, same at Impossibles and Bingin and this is my observation of Ulus from yesterday afternoon:
Just looking at Ulus from Made Bentils place. Glorious late afternoon, there's a gentle offshore, 40 out at racetrack, just a dozen others covering the other 80% of the reef"

The bombie and outside peak are trying to break, there's the occasional wave just now and then, outriders for the coming swell?
Overhead and not very crowded

I think you are adding a bit to my observations. Well Ulus can be. Not saying it always is. Re: Balangan....that footage on the Bali Site looked damn good. Getting in looked like a nightmare based on what I saw. Getting in at Ulus when it's big and high tide isn't a popular pastime unless you know what you're doing.

Steve, if you haven't seen the Surfers of Bali vids.

I think Beanie and co are referring to Balangan as a bit soft from vids like this

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACNeJPMr4zc

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpXKVBJS_pI

Soft compared to Ulu or Padang at same size.

yeah, cheers Channels.

Now I'm really confused because that was DOH surf and crowded as fcuk.

but big Belangan is one of the heaviest waves on Bali.

Just spent a bit of time catching up with a mate at his losmen. He was telling me about the best wave he's ever caught.

Just as he finished the story another guy came by, Chris looked up and said (to Craig) "You saw that wave eh!"

Craig said "Yeah. We were at Bingin when this huge wave came in at Impossibles. Everyone was watching, Chris dropped in late and somehow made section after section, then got slotted so deep that no one thought he would come out. He did and everyone was cheering"

Fcuk, it got the attention of everyone down at Bingin, must have been some wave.

no I didn't Loof, looked really nice but I already had my oceanic adventure bagged up.
too many deadlines.

Tell you what, there was a lot of satisfaction cutting up that fish and realising I would be feeding the family for a week.

surfing is a different buzz.

you ever surf Bingin Cranked?
I surfed it a fair bit in the eighties when it was more or less a secret spot. But I never surf it now, it's a really small take off zone with a hardcore agro (I'm told) Balinese crew.

Nah. There's just too much paddling at the ulus breaks when its big. The swell didn't really arrive, although a set of about 15 well overhead swept me down the coast after I caught one of them.

I came in after that at about 3pm so they might have heralded the arrival of the swell, or not. I'll go and check soon.
