Re: Where did you surf today ?
You know, given your track record
Re: Where did you surf today ?
well, last winter I was flat broke and surfing the point before dawn. I had my short arm steamer over my long arm short john because I couldn't buy a new wetty.
I was very warm, in my 6/4!
But yeah steve would probably break an arm

I think I had a 2mm billabong steamer and then some obnoxious one I borrowed from my sis in laws boyfriend over the top.

Hmmmm. All of this is very revealing.
Continually posturing about how if he moved to Sydney he’d immediately stop surfing due to the downgrade in quality.
But on the other hand, quite willing to surf miserable English Channel freezing wind slop, wearing two steamers.
So which is it Steve?
The princess with the pea under her mattress?
Or the hardened devoted surf scavenger?
And no sidestepping, conflation, or avoidance tactics, thank you.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
I was far from willing Iggs.
very far.
quite often I only went out because my wife subjected me to taunts and insults.
she thought it quite unbecoming an Aussie stud should sit in the car nursing a hot beverage while 1-2ft surf was going off outside.
did I mention raining cold onshore and crowded?

You only surfed that slop because your wife taunted you?
So what would’ve happened if you didn’t paddle out?
Pfftt. Cmon man! You’ll need to come up with something a little more creative than that.
But more importantly, tell us about the standard of surfing in the English Channel community.
This would’ve been in the 1990s, right?
I’m picturing putrid waves, with chinless dweebs tic tacking like mad on under-powered wafer thin thrusters.
Bogging down and pushing water, half turns.
Wide legged sideways stances.
Simply revolting!

well fcuk that, I've got home and it's kind of pumping! 4'+ sth swell, long interval clean and fun as Shit.
anyway come on Hatchnam. If you haven't been in a foreign country trying desperately to hang on to your surfing head in completely shithouse conditions, you haven't really lived

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Nick. Any word on the Homebush surf park? Scheduled for 2021.
Will it happen?
Will it suck?
Will it last long before shutting down?
Sorry if you’ve already covered this elsewhere.
I’m kinda looking forward to it as weeknight tic tacking practice, as it’s only 15 mins away.

No word whatsoever. I think all their money and energy is being burned on trying to finish the one at Tullamarine.
Which -- I hear -- will boast winter water temps of 8 degrees C.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Actually I read an interesting letter in the SMH this morning by someone who had a suggestion for the NSW Govt: why don't they use the land where the footy stadium was demolished to build a motorbike speedway track?
As the writer pointed out, speedway used to be super popular in Sydney. And right now an Australian is world speedway champion, and the world speedway tour is looking for an Australian site for an event. But who knows that about speedway? Maybe the same number of people who know how Australia's going in surfing.
It really made me think of why things like speedway have their day then kind of fizzle and disappear, even though people still do 'em. And how the people who DO do 'em have an outsized idea of the sport's importance. And also how insanely in demand most urban land is nowadays. And also just how fcuking unlikely it is that any of these pools will last very long, if they're even built. Like, surfing? It's pretty small stuff really. Its entire appeal, in the minds of almost all non-surfers and a fcukload of surfers too, is based on going to the beach.
You think more people watch speedway, or surfing? You think more people surf or ride motorbikes? You think that Homebush land is worth more as a wave pool or as apartments? It might be worth more as a speedway track.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
I know this is a slight digression but on a similar theme: what happened to the whole professional clubby thing, you know the Nutrigrain Ironman, Coolangatta Gold etc etc.
those guys used to be household names, broadcast at prime times etc etc.
its fallen completely off the radar .
Does the Molokai race get coverage in Hawaii, USA etc etc?
It would almost seem a gimme for a broadcast spectacle.
