Some of us might remember the last really epic June/July, in 2007. The way these patterns are evolving is almost the precise opposite of that year.
Geez. I do remember that. We had just moved up here and I surfed pretty much every day for a couple of months. Thought I was in heaven. Since then, not so much.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

I've been wondering for a long time now why they put the "carbon" fiber on the deck. Carbon fiber is much stronger than fiberglass when its in tension but not that much better than glass in compression, so shouldn't it be on the bottom where it will be more in tension than compression

this is the worst east coast low in modern history
it's worse than drunk Polebean algae thread bombing on weekends
It's worse than International Surfing Day
It's worse than third hand mid-length surfboards. Worse than "big wave" legropes in 2' surf. Worse than a half-dug wave pool.

Does anyone have one of those Thai made DHD EPS boards? They have a fairly decorative tail.

The left up the beach...Brighton. God that stretch is crap.
It's why there is so much desire to see Webber's artificial reef be legitimate.

Nothing is more tragic than seeing people flock to the latest fantasy drawing, only to (thankfully) forget all about it, until the next fantasy drawing.
These people who happily write about the latest fantasy drawing on some surf website or other. Have they ever allowed reality to impinge on the fantasy? Have they even considered the huge barriers to any kind of alteration of the coastline, anywhere the rule of law actually holds sway? Do they ever dig around to find out how much money has been invested by fairly normal, hopeful but not super investment savvy surfers in these fantasies? And how those investments are secured?
Fuck I am tempted to go dig around and find out.

what I mean by that is in my lifetime, less than a hundred Kays away there has been a huge coastal engineering project which involved four government bodies (NSW state govt, QLD state govt, Gold Coast City Council, Tweed shire council) and a private operator.
Rule of law?.....that was a legislative and administrative nightmare and they got through it.
And that followed on from another massive coastal engineering project up at Southport. Also in my lifetime.
Totally rejigged the coastline.
Both those projects created surf of almost unimaginable perfection and consistency.
Quite literally some of the best waves in the world.
Staggering engineering achievements.
In that context, a little Vwall or V reef at Tugun beach, say, is nothing.

I was checking this exact view at the same time as someone with a bunch of photography gear was taking a few pics. 8' 17s swell out to sea, 3' at Scarbs. The waves were shifting beach breaks, 50 out, 10m was the best ride I saw. only for the desperate IMHO

The sand pumping and groins weren't really about creating surf though. That was a by product. It was beach stabilisation and sand retention.
