You might as well try and hold back the tide as resist the righteous return of Gods chosen wetsuit: the backzip.

They have to do something about the flap they put in lots of back zips these days. Was going to buy a new bong one a while ago but the flap put me off.

Re: that wetsuit discussion...
You'd probably be needing a back-zip for that .......

Re: that wetsuit discussion...
Any return of the back zip will be solely driven by the desire to maintain profit margins as cheapo new entrants drive down retail prices. That there appears to be a marginalised demographic of angry tetraplegics incompatible with the vastly superior chest zip is just the icing on the cake for the wetsuit companies
Re: that wetsuit discussion...
Back zips are just way too hard to get into and out of, you need the simplicity and the joy of the longjohn and front zip long sleeve top combination for real ease of access.

I was going to respond to this derogatively.
Then I realised you are probably taking the piss.
If you aren't flexible enough to easily get into a back zip, you shouldn't be surfing.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

What do you think of chest zips and zipperless suits then?

I only surf a couple of times a year in full rubber now and I haven't had a steamer for 2 years. I've never used a front zip steamer.
Yep Trev, just taking the piss, but the long john is ridiculously easy to get into and out of, and so is a front zip top. I have two of each: 2 and 3mm longjohns, 1.5 and 2mm tops, all super stretchy.

Thoughts on the diaphram style flap they put on the back zips to supposedly make them more watertight?

Haven't noticed any difference. But my newest steamer is three years old.Beanpole wrote: ↑Wed Jan 03, 2018 10:34 pmThoughts on the diaphram style flap they put on the back zips to supposedly make them more watertight?

Re: that wetsuit discussion...
Okay.....my current back zip...and the Billabong I recently tried on..thanks Yuke...have a flap that goes across the shoulders. To zip the back up you have to wrangle this thing into a position where you can keep it clear of the zipper or it will jam. This is done by getting one arm in, then reaching around till you can get a grip on it somehow and then pull it taut while you get the zip cord and pull that up. Given that you usually need to hold the base of the zip and make sure the keys inside if it's got a cord attachment plus the seam isn't stuck in the Velcro that's an unnecessary complication. They could put a second cord attachment for that to make it easier.
I reckon it's probably a leftover feature from the front zip construction process they were too lazy to design a solution for. It's supposed to keep your back warm under the zipper.
Springy doesn't have this feature.

Huh! I'd just cut it off.
The narrow flap which runs up inside the zipper does the job well enough.

How's a zen zip work? Quick Google shows it looks like a back zip.
Re: that wetsuit discussion...
The Zen part is that you don't have to listen to any old blokes try and figure it out in the carpark, because the flap is fixed.

I was going to say. Like how do any of you manage to get out of bed in the mornings. "Oh God what are these shoe things with their unbearably complex 'laces'!" "Oh dear! I am likely to fall down the 'stairs'!"
