Hey Gents -
I'm still alive. Honestly I don't know how. It's been a twister of a year - Tore the labrum in my shoulder while surfing - dislocated it in pounding surf three times - required three rescues and ambulance trips before I decided to stop surfing until after the reconstruction surgery...
Lost the wife, lost my mojo big time...
Found a great new home and have the basics for a factory in place again. There's a silver lining every time. Just believe me.
Here's what I've neglected to post of the boards trickling out in the meantime -
Legion's "Carbine"...

The latest shape in the new location - The Pyromaniac - 6' x 20' for my Lil' Bro in Margaret River.
This one uses a 1.5mm marine ply for skins, and nylon interior fibre. We thinks it'll be tuff... Tom will bash the crap out of this. If it holds up, it could become the standard.

Hi Josh,
Sorry to hear you have had a tough time. When you say you lost your wife Im not sure if you mean divorce, seperation or death. Its non of my business but all I can say is Ive just gone through ( and am going through) my wife suddenly and unexpectedly walking out on me. Id be happy to share my experience if it ever helps.

Thanks Natho -
She left. There's no way to prepare for that and no consolation. I did'nt hold myself together too well. I'm coming good though, I still see the kids for weekends, and lost my post-marriage virginity already.
6 months in, I can say - it's not that bad.

Good luck Josh.
Fark, realsurf contributors going through some hell at the moment.
On a lighter note, I just picked up a Sunova board, 6'6'', had always wanted a sunova since seeing them in Natural Necessity some time back and found this one on gumtree.
It may be too good for me, but fark it, how is a man going to get better.
In any case, a mate who has been on these forums in years gone by, who you have done a few boards for and posted pictures for on here, told me that you used to work with Bert and together developed the firewire technology, If I'm allowed to say that.
I had already worked that out though, having seen your boards in all their guises, and noticing the similarities in build.
It won't be any good in 2' summer rubbish, but I think it might just go like the clappers in anything 3' plus, and probably best in 4-5. Really looking forward to trying to make the most of it.
It will test my resolve in terms of making it work, a bit lower on the volume and such slender rails, but good planing area and just looks like it flows, even sitting in my garage.

Hey Oldman -
I no longer pick that scab. Long story which I won't tell here. It should'nt lessen your enthusiasm for your new board however - I try never to dirty anyone's joy on the composite thing of any label, so hopefully it turns you on and you come to me for a custom!
Thanks everyone.

Re: Josh Dowling Designs
Sounds like we are in a similar situation Josh.
I see my little bloke on weekends and a good chick I know came round and blew my knob as soon as she found out what happened.
I dont know how I survived either but 6 months later and things are coming together already. Plus Im surfing more and the quiver has almost doubled already

Re: Josh Dowling Designs
Josh, that is very possible. Gotta get my surfing shit together beforehand, but I'm well into that program and you are at the top of my list for a custom.speedneedle wrote:Hey Oldman -

At the moment I am in advanced stages of working out what works for me, what really works, for me, and being able to communicate that to a shaper, and this is part of that research.
Best wishes.
Is realsurf always this active in the evenings, or is everyone else at home waiting for the kids music ensemble program to end?
