I've never ryokaned, reckon I might this time as a wind down before the trip back home.
Flights are still stupid though, unless I go through Manilla which I swore I would never do again after last time.

The place I stay in Myoko Kogen is more like a B&B, it's called the Woody House, Kazamidori (which are the names of the couple that own and run it). Kaza drives the shuttle from the station otherwise you don't see him much, Midori is always there, really friendly, makes terrific meals. They use to be in a jazz group and often the music is softly playing in the background at meal time.
Has two private onsen, which I like as the nazi grim reaper skull fucking a kitten tat on my back often draws unwanted attention.
I was worried they wouldn't survive the lockdown, but they have, I'd like to go and stay there but I'm also itching to see other areas.

Yeah Myoko is small, you can bus it to other places like Suginohara.
The village is really small, not so much gaijin but always increasing.

Re: General snow stuff
The snow has been coming down like crazy in Tahoe. Already had 6m for the season. About 2m yesterday and up to another 2m this weekend.
Getting there is the challenge, all 4 highways closed on the weekend and there's also local flooding here. Turns a 3.5 hour drive into a 5-6 hour crapshoot.
I'm up for it and have the emergency and 4wd equipment but it's a bit irresponsible and difficult to convince the kids it's a good plan.

Ken Block died in a snowmobile accident and Jeremy Renner was run over by a snowcat and almost died, probably lost a leg.
