Junky NE Windswell. Went out for a couple but my sore back saw me back……in sooner rather than later.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
I caught a wave and saw the reef boiling a bit and thought there was just enough water over it, but my fin caught and I launched head first into the reef so quickly I had no chance to do anything... I saw a bit of jagged perfectly framed and thought this is not going to end well at all, I managed to turn my head sideways so I hit side on, blacked out for a few seconds. Came too disorientated, felt like I was king hit but there were was no real damage except a few bleeding scratches under my hood.

I thought it was really bad at first, like broken jaw, missing teeth, left eye badly damaged. Some friends who saw it happen came down and I was watching their expressions to try and gauge what it was like. The problem was I was moving fast on my board and when the fin hit the reef the board just stopped dead and I kept moving forward and the leggie pulled my feet out from under me.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Can you remember the drive home? Still concussed?
Re: Where did you surf today ?
I was OK, not concussed, just a bit out of it for about 15 minutes.
I did get a serious concussion about 10 years ago. I was hit in the head by a guy on a board as I was duck diving. I had to be helped to shore and was incapable of doing anything. Luckily there was a nurse who organised everything. They took me to hospital, someone drove my car and parked it. They kept me under observation until10pm, my son picked me up, I was still in my steamer. I had a crippling headache for about 24 hours caused by my swelling brain!

I had a Gath helmet in the 80s, but it was mainly for eye and ear protection.
Indo reefs are much safer than WA reefs as they're mainly dead coral reefs that have smooth contours.

Decathlon does a very spiffy looking soft one Cranked. Stylish enough to wear about town too, I reckon
Re: Where did you surf today ?
Looks good, I'd wear it. Main requirement is that it has to stay in place during duck dives. Nine out of ten fail that test.
Note that I said "stay in place"... I don't want it obscuring my vision during/after a duckdive. A small brim like that would help
