Scored some nice waves over the weekend. Yesterday chest high to a little overhead, Werri beach aframes, then solo at shoalhaven heads on a pitching lefthand bank. Today at Maroubra, waist to chest high. Getting the new midlength dialed in.

Started off yesterday running it as a single fin. but it felt stifled, like the handbreak was on just wanting to run straight the whole time. Then today splashed out on the CI 2+1 fin set, 6’5 centre with 4’ sides. Feels like a completely different board, swoops and turns, and surfs just the way I want it to

I think you can get smaller sides for smaller waves

yeah there was also the option for 3.4 inch side bite. but wanted the larger sides, to get more of the thruster feel, more to push off. have set the 6.5 centre fin right to the back of the box. even in the smaller conditions today, the board felt lively and responsive. kinda figured right from the start a straight single wasn't going to suit, the board's got quite a bit of rocker and a shortboard rail. it wants to be turned constantly not just glide along.

Best twin fin I’ve ever owned or surfed was shaped by Nigel beckham, now retired from shaping, Kiwi gent based gold coast. Big glassed in fins pushed further up away from the tail, and pulled in a little closer to the stringer, vee running full length of the board, small single channel running out of the tail, hipped in diamond tail, decent amount of rocker. Went great deep in the pocket and in hollow waves, surfed beautifully top to bottom, whipped high and tight even backhand. It surfed much like a thruster but with constant speed thru turns,. Regret selling it.

Hatchie..i knew Nigel when he started shaping in the mid 90s. He was a chippie by trade and at the time started experimenting with long boards with that same set up..2 fins but not trad twin fin. He rode Ok and surfed the Alley at Currumbin a lot. Did a fair few State Longboard comps too as i recall.
Lots swore by the set up and that did go well on his longboards..never saw too many shorter versions of 6'6"...or up to the mid lengths...tho did see some. He still lives at Tugun near the Airport...and is a bigger dude now than as a gangly youngin..

I got it second hand. Had it for quite a while then sold it. Had a little too much volume for me, aside was a great board.

True. He’s still got nice style though. Much better than some hunched over Brazzer from the WSL. God some of that is awful to watch. Think Adriano.
