Yes Steve, a Pavel fish shaped by Rich Pavel and no it wasnt dinged puttiing on and off wall racks. Surfing local point at low tide.

Always liked the look of his speed diallers
Nice Pavel bonzer to go with. But you'll have to come and surf the north coast points with us to make the most of it.

It’s sort of and 1/8th interesting. The questions to ask.

A) do I really want an alternative board?
B) am I that bored with my current boards to buy and expensive alternative?
C) am I so dialled in to my current boards that I need a change?
D) will it make me surf better changing boards a lot? You know finally find that magic board.
E) am I changing boards because I had a couple of bad seasons for any type of reason? Should I just go back to an easy board for a few surfs then?
F) should carnts on the internet mind their own fucking business?

There’s this middle aged fat guy I see around town from time to time.
I think he probably used to be a good surfer and he’s had a breakdown and he’s having a go again.
He paddles out on his old sunburnt toothpick with a side and centre fin only and yells at all the waves when they don’t pick him up as he paddles into them.

Almost everyone will surf better and have more fun on "alternative" boards.

That has been the one great innovation of surf culture.

It’s not an innovation it’s a repeat of history.

And a few years ago you’d be hung, drawn and quartered for even considering one. Something from an Andrew Kidman flick (“wow look a fish”) It’s a sport chocked with immaturity.

I’ve always bought secondhand boards. One thing I really wish is I’d started riding fish a lot earlier. On the other hand riding mals and midlengths for years before the current crop of midlife crisis converts has been great. Cruising wasn’t as appreciated for its aesthetics back then though.
Fish and mals don’t go out of fashion at the same rate as hpsbs.

Maybe for longer periods though.

And if the driver is style then great.

Been loving the hps the last couple days.
My experience with them, and this is post age 30-35, before then it’s easier.
If i get out close to daily on anything, so mid length, fish, log, whatever. Just so I’ve had a paddle and a few pop ups, then getting on the hps is pretty easy.

If I was a weekend warrior I reckon I’d be exclusive to hybrids/midlengths/fish.

Proper childhood rippers never lose it and can get back on the hps and do pretty well even if they’re surfing irregularly.

Today looks like being the first actually flat day this week. Yesterday was still breaking nice if you got one and there were still a few. Definitely an alt craft few days though. Trimming and nose riding. I’m actually feeling pretty surf fit at the moment. Crept up on me.
