I've been trying to locate a pic of a board that'd go down a bomb here in this thread. Searched all remaining mags I have but to no avail.
It was from either Surfing World, Surfer or Surfing magazine from early to mid 70's when I was buying them all.
Words can't quite do it justice but I'll try.

This board had an exceptionally high, lifting nose rocker. About 2ft of it in fact. And the spray job on the bottom of this bow sprit like nose was of a gorgeous topless nymph!  A mermaid like beauty with fullsome jugs and flowing blonde locks, and a come hither smile. An example of pure sculptural artifice.
Needless to say it'd be only marginally less functional than one of Jesus Stewart's creations. But definately sexier.

Ring any bells with any of you ol' bastards?

Another keeper from Mark. No decent waves ridden yet but showed plenty of promise in small, onshore junk.

Actually Mullaway I didnt make the blank for this one.. ,,,I spent 3 1/2 hours to fix it ,and square it up, before I could put a template on it , but the board will be nice....good paddle volume and maybe a good semi-gun for the right person.........

cost wise it must be a curse

hows it feel in the surf.....i imagine it corky....is it :?:

.....not so much harder to work than foam really , some shapers dont like it - others love it.......the timber cost can fluctuate , but is quite affordable at present . Regarding performance , its not at all corky , and if its balanced properly , it's unbeatable compaired to a conventional board. Watch this space !

I'm with Fong here. Some very nice looking curves and hints and nods to a few different eras. Just love a pintail - always have and always will I reckon. Interesting to hear you say about working with Balsa is not so bad. I had this conception - obviously a mis conception that it was way harder. Do - or can you use a plane and surform etc just the same. Who am I kidding - I'll leave it to the experts - but love to see the end result. Lovely outline

shaping tools for balsa are the same as foam , until you get down to finer sanding -- just swap gauze with some different sandpaper grits...... :)
