Options for October?

Might have just scored an unexpected week off work in early october, so might go on a quick trip somewhere.

Looking for somewhere within an 8-10 hour flight (or drive) from sydney, warm water, things to do with the mrs also, relatively uncrowded waves. Not fussed on scoring huge waves - 3-6ft would be ideal. Am equally happy in rights, lefts sand bottom or reefs. And the kicker - don't want to spend too much coin!

something relaxing with good waves and a little touristy stuff thrown in for a good price basically. (does such a place exist?)

Anybody have any suggestions for around mid october for the above?
