Seems like it is probably just a bruise.
Will see in a couple of days.

Seems like some minor damage to the tendon and muscle but no fracture. Was fine yesterday when I headed back to the hills and met up with Grooter*

* I immediately ditched him and headed into the trees as it was a bluebird day with 45" of new snow

Riding in this sunny California weather is weird, I ordered some new warm weather wax because this stuff just gets so slow and sticky.
Can't use the fluoro stuff anymore for environmental reasons, which is a pity. I still have at least a kilo of it, and it's amazing.

This belongs in the what did I buy thread but would be unappreciated.

My old Hestra helis fell to bits after a decade or so. I have another pair of Hestra but they aren't quite what I want (short cuffs, some material that gets wet). So I got some Hestra Fält Guide gloves. Damn they are nice. Pure leather outer. Wool inner (my strong preference over poly). I just treated them with Obenaufs LP and they've come up great. Much darker and that'll give them a bit more water protection. I anticipate at least a decade of life.

 Yeah you don't want to board with me I am pretty hopeless at this caper!

Knee is getting better, still sore but I have about 95% movement and no sharp pain or swelling anymore. By this time next week I should be good to get back out into the water on a longboard for some chill waves. Snowboarding I will wait another couple of weeks at a minimum.

The voice of the surf heard now and then was a positive pleasure, like the speech of a brother. It was something natural, that had its reason, that had a meaning.

Pulled out my old jacket and it has fallen to bits. A rubberised pit zip has come apart resulting in a permanently open pit. It served me well for 12 years and five 30 day trips, which is ok. Seems the company has gone bust though. It was Westcomb, made with eVent.

So to replace it do I go with the stereotypical American dead bird Goretex Pro, or the stereotypical European Norrona Lofoten, or something more left field like Bergans, Sweet, Klattermüsen. I've always been interested in eVent or Dermizax and I guess there are other alternatives nowadays. I like Patagucci stuff in general but never liked the cut of their jackets and never trusted their H2No (I don't like proprietary fabrics).

One thing's for sure, whatever I get won't be cheap. Arc is ridiculous, as is Norrona.

My next jacket will probably be a Rab. I'm a little more focused on venting and breathability for touring and riding in warm weather.
Mammut also has great options.
Both are Euro fit but you're Euro shaped.
Rab has long arms and torso. Mammut is pretty slim fit.

I think OR and Marmot are the best value for money but you want high end.

I went for Arc. But fuck, their marketing department needs to have a good look at themselves. They're selling a garment targeted at a very athletic market and this twig-legged shapeless model is the best they can do?

The other one I was tempted by was this obscure brand

eVent fabric. Good features. The bibs are great. But the jacket has a couple of weird design choices - most notably the very short cut in the front. In storms I like penis coverage because things can get cold down there.

At least the marketing is good.
