Re: Just general surfing stuff
I think I took a swim in that pool as I was walking past.
I had to walk the entire beach and then paddle around that headland then walk home a mile from the temple.
You seem a bit upset by Nusa dua leej.

The times are something like this (its all during the night so almost no traffic):alakaboo wrote: ↑Wed Dec 04, 2024 1:40 pmMust've hit Lombok Strait at a decent clip.Cranked wrote: ↑Wed Dec 04, 2024 7:47 amNo but I was part of the local expat community at Ulus and they went there frequently. They'd drive there leaving around midnight and be there within 12 hours. A lot have moved there.
I and a good mate whose whole life has been living and surfing overseas, have been talking about going there lately by bike and ferries.
Very roughly:
Hour and a half to where the Bali/Lombok ferry leaves Bali
Hour and a half for the ferry to get to Lombok
Hour and a half to cross Lombok
Hour and a half for Lombok to Nusa Tenggara by ferry
Hour and a half to where they stay
Total 7.5 hours and 4.5 hours for contingencies.

Last time I took the Bali-Lombok ferry it took more than 5 hours.
When I went to Sumbawa I took the fast passenger ferry.

Yeah, I can't find anything quicker with a bike or car.

At 888kJ, it might get problematic.
The moving finger writes and having writ moves on ... now all thy piety nor wit shall lure it back to cancel even half a line ... nor all thy tears wash out a single word of it.

A little bit blurry, but a pretty good photo of the man-made waterfall that used to run down beside Greenmount Beach. It was lovely. The even better bit was the created forest creek above the first of the 3 waterfalls. A little fantasy, rocky, very natural looking, multi-stage burbling watercourse that ran about 30 metres thru trees before feeding the three waterfalls.
Sadly removed due to a water conservation drive during a drought.

You can see the stairs up beside the waterfall. My Dad made and installed the handrails for them. They were still there about 15 years ago. But gone now.
Just to clarify, the stairs were there long before the waterfall. They were installed in 1965. Dad died at the end of that year.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

I remember both of those features.
Fond memories of drinking cider on the headland before going into the Patch for dollar nights.

Re: Just general surfing stuff
1969….we used to go for Sunday drives up to the Gold Coast to look at the new canal developments and stuff. Early September my parents had taken me to Kirra Zoo and then hit the Twin Towns Services Club. As per usual kids were left in the car to entertain themselves. Might get a packet of Smiths Crisps if you were lucky.
I walked over to Greenmount Point and watched the guys catching waves in through Rainbow. It looked unreal.Thats when I decided that’s what I wanted to do.

Leave the kids in the car and get drunk?
Re: Just general surfing stuff
That’s the way it was, boo.
Spent a bit of time in my parents car outside the Tugun pub. On a Sunday mostly. Pubs were only open for a short while.

Was a joke, Trev.
He said it was when he decided to surf, but it sounded like he decided to do as his parents did

Re: Just general surfing stuff
Yep, I remember telling a few young work colleagues that.
Totally did their head in.
Friday arvo I’d get chucked in the Murwillumbah Municipal Pool rain, hail or shine.
Moved to Cudgen when I was in Yr 10.
Then it was afternoon surfs and a ride home from the Bowlo.

I get it.
But it brought back memories.
Dad used to get seriously pissed and stagger home up Tugun hill after work but maybe only once every couple of months.
The Sunday sessions happened more often. He wouldn’t get pissed and Mum would have a shandy.
