These seem like the stats you use for Western Australia. Generalisations that don't take into account that days have many different winds.Cranked wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2024 7:22 pmHere's Surf-Forecast's wind stats for Nusa Dua (seasons are southern hemisphere months):
Summer: Offshore 87%
Autumn: Onshore 57%
Winter: Onshore 97%
Spring: Onshore 59%
For Uluwatu:
Summer: Onshore 64%
Autumn: Offshore 79%
Winter: Offshore 98%
Spring: Offshore 73%
Re: Just general surfing stuff
The wind and wave statistics for Bali are pretty well spot on.
Those for WA are also pretty good offshore, but the bathometry of the offshore reefs (the drowned ancient WA coastline) nearly completely destroys the west coast swells and the forecasts do not take bathometry into account at all.

So Nusa dua is offshore in the wet season.
Do we need surf-forecast to tell us that?

They have the hourly wind data, so I assume that's what they would use in their calculationsPeepeelaPew wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2024 11:02 pmThese seem like the stats you use for Western Australia. No but I was part of the local expat community at Ulus and they went there frequently. They'd drive there leaving around midnight and be there within 12 hours. A lot have moved there.
I and a good mate whose whole life has been living and surfing overseas, have been talking about going there lately by bike and ferries.

If I'd listened to the "experts" on here I would never have gone.
It's fcukign amazing.
And we only surfed a 1/4 of the really good waves within 15mins of where we were staying.

Must've hit Lombok Strait at a decent clip.Cranked wrote: ↑Wed Dec 04, 2024 7:47 amNo but I was part of the local expat community at Ulus and they went there frequently. They'd drive there leaving around midnight and be there within 12 hours. A lot have moved there.

I re-read the discussion and it was more positive than negative regarding Nusa Dua.channels wrote: ↑Wed Dec 04, 2024 1:35 pmsteve shearer wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2024 4:16 pmNusa dua was completely different to what I expected.

Loof and Kunji negative.
Jimmy didn't like it because he was there in dry season.
Everyone else was positive or neutral.
Re: Just general surfing stuff
That was my take as well although it isn't unusual that the narrative changes pending the agenda.

OK, apart from a couple of naysayers the vibe was positive.
I guess the negative feedback stuck more than the positive stuff, possibly because it was more forceful.
Anyhow, no takers for West Sumbawa?

Kunji and loofy were negative because of the giant westernised complexes and lack of authenticity, not the surf.

They were way more subtle and Indonesian than I thought (based on these "experts").PeepeelaPew wrote: ↑Wed Dec 04, 2024 2:07 pmKunji and loofy were negative because of the giant westernised complexes and lack of authenticity, not the surf.
I just wandered in from the surf into a glitzy resort and had a shower.
No one gave a fcuk.
If that was Oz I would not have got past the front lawn.
Bought beers from the beachside bars and drank them on daybeds.
5 bucks for a Bintang.
They were happy to accept my soaking wet rupiah I bought for the purpose and went surfing with.
Dogs on the beach.
Old school Indo prows running out the back with classic shirtless Indo skippers trying to fleece newbies.
It was still Indo.
