Well I rode a 6ft board for 3 hours this morning and feel fine. So I guess it’s horses for corsets.

That is to say, whatever your opinion is means nought to me and my sore back. But, thank you for it all the same.

How heavy was the board Pants?
Lugging a log around in and out of the water can exercise a few muscles.
You use the weight to your advantage on a wave or fight against it.

Fair enough.

I've ridden logs for decades- never had a problem with the physical demands of it, especially in small surf.

Thats the whole point of it: to make it easier.

Why old guys ride 'em.

I’ll try again. Maybe this board is too heavy. I struggled to carry it further than 30 metres without my back hurting. I’m not that small!!!

That’s a log alright. They are not normally particularly heavy these days. Are they, longboarders?

The trad style log is still heavy. That’s why I got myself an epoxy high performance one. Even my old Rabbidge that is a beautiful mal to ride was pretty heavy…..Like a Cadillac. Lugging it around the weight just made it that much less likely to carry it any distance. Also in crowds you had to allow space and time to turn the Queen Mary.

Geez.
And I thought I was unfit.
But last year I lugged my 9'6" X 23 X 3⅜ Mal through National Park, past Ti Tree to Granite AND BACK after a 2 hour surf

And it's pu not epoxy.
I was only 74 though. 😁

But I couldn't ride a 6 footer though.

30 metres and your back was hurting ?

what sort of board was it?

I thought it was the 5 minutes of surfing it which hurt your back?

Thats at least a 10 ft log Rusty is doing laps with and he's 80 years old.

He would have carried that thing hundreds of metres that day.

It’s a question of how often you would feel like doing that Trev…not whether you could do it once. Why didn’t you paddle back?

Not making that claim.
I've paddled from main beach to gumtrees (just inside the pot), on a couple of occasions. Grateful to be able to catch waves back though.

So, Trev, how many old mal riders lug their logs around to Granites for a surf?
I’ve never bothered to walk that far.

Riding a log is 5% muscle and 95% technique.
