I'm not that good. Mediocre, average, middle of the road, occasionally above par, occasionally below par, often a kook but interspersed with the occasional moments of competence.

It’s such an interesting question. How do you rate yourself. I’m a kook compared to a good younger surfer. So generally a kook. But, fucking hell I surfed on a packed Sunday and was like grey bearded god sent from Zeus to rule the ocean compared to all the ages floundering around. So lol, we all have our moments. Yeh I’m a kook for sure.

Unfortunately for my surfing, life is about competing priorities. Far too often lately, surfing rarely makes the top 3.

Covid man. It’s the age of mid week surfing.

For someone with no interest you sure wasted a lot of that precious time remaining jawboning the thread with gobbledygook.
Actually no ... I hadn't looked into the forum since the previous post a few days back. Been too busy surfing and catching up with friends down at Booti Booti. We're now bivouacing for the evening at one of your favorite haunts, before heading slightly further north. I'll wave to you on the way past, probably sometime Friday. Keep it moist.

It was the age of mid-week surfing.

I went back to full time work in January (had been part time since March) and back into the city every day now as well.

We aren’t back yet. But, I’m mainly WFH anyways.

Couldn’t sustain part time? Would be nice.

Surfers aren’t the common man steve, they’re selfish cnuts as you very well know. I’m sure that you benefit indirectly and directly from Lennox’s existing tourism marketing so it smacks of rank hypocrisy when you get all bitey because it’s the wrong kind of tourism
Huh?

God, thats terrible thinking.

The surfers I saw were school teachers, plumbers, dentists, sports admin people, sparkies, builders, chefs, bakers, surfboard shapers etc etc.

How do I benefit? I don't.

Few people benefit, most people suffer when capacity can't keep up with demand, as has been happening here for years.
My kids school is completely overloaded and over capacity.

The issue here is managing capacity not stimulating demand. That "battle" was won decades ago. The whole world wants to live and holiday here.

Pretty piss poor arguments from the pro camp I have to say. Intellectually very thin gruel. Lots of : wah, won't someone think of the children, wah: what about the poor struggling business people, wah: you're all a bunch of selfish nimby cnuts. Low level emotional reasoning lacking facts, logic and an understanding of current local realities.

to be honest, I expected better, especially from you Godsave. I always thought you were a switched on cookie.
Tourism is a significant contributor to the Lennox Head economy, accounting for the equivalent of 10-15% of retail sales in 2014/15.
With tourism output in Ballina having increased by over 50% since then, I wouldn’t be surprised if that proportion is nearer to 20%. A pretty hefty contribution to the economic prosperity that makes Lennox the sort of place you and your family want to live in. That’s your indirect benefit of encouraging tourism. Direct? Well, didn’t you drive an airport bus for a number of years?

To tell the truth eggs are one thing I avoid buying when I’m grocery shopping. So you may say I’m an intermittent egg buyer who usually lets someone else buy them.

You sure do come up with some weird assumptions.

If I wanted economic prosperity I'd be making cold calls beside Loof at Bondi Junction.

There's gonna be four CTs in Australia, a couple of 'em in slightly unexpected places, you'll all read about it tomorrow. Lots of people will watch 'em online, if the surf's good they'll be stoked but will fight over the judging or some shit. If the surf's not very good they'll blame the WSL, whatever.

Everyone likes eating the sausage at the BBQ but nobody likes thinking about how the sausage gets made.

And I will tune in intermittently.
Nick, what do you guesstimate is the number of people (as opposed to views) who actually regularly watch WSL heats?
