Doncha hate it when!

Post by barstardos » Mon Nov 24, 2008 10:56 am

Had a feeling swell would be here this morning so hit S curly at 5.15 - looked epic at 4'+ ...but a close out set and high tide suggested maybe DY point was on. Checked that but nothing doing and paddled out at Curly.
Only problem was the groundswell arrived and maxed out the bank so after a dozen 6' sets on the head decided I go in and see if Freshie was handling it. Paddled out at Freshie for more bloody closeouts.
Should have hit the point but I was unlucky to check it in a lull.

I just know there is epic waves going down this morning and all I got was closeouts and a hell paddle!!

I find it funny that people think that a quick glance for under 1 or two minutes is long enough to make a decision about the condition of the surf?

I always watch for about 10 minutes, even if I get out of the car and it looks sick, I wait and watch, then make a decision, otherwise its too easy to be fooled either way as to the quality on offer.

I used to drive over the hill or around the last bend and invariably the first glimpse of the water would show the wave of the day going through unridden, punters in the wrong place, and it always looked great.

Rip off my clothes, get the wetty on, paddle out enthusiastically and eventually work out that the wave I saw was the best wave of the day by a multiple of about 3, and that the rest was inconsistent rubbish.

Alternatively I'll watch for 10 minutes, wait paralysed in indecision, check every possible option, weigh up the pros and cons and eventually decide that I wouldn't get any in that crowd and turn around and get a coffee.

Just lost 3 hours of my life!

I try to avoid both if I can, but have fallen for the latter a few times through the last winter.

Yep I always do the same, sometimes I've waited up to half an hour at the beachies if the sand banks are being too damn fickle.

No good going to a place that's firing if it's going to go to sh.it in 20 minutes, I'd rather stay in the one spot for 2 hours and have a good surf.

True salty - Freshie is a hoax - best you stay away and not waste your time. But I live a 100m back from Freshie - sometimes my time is wasted - sometimes it isnt.

Surfed Rock Pools this morning with “Joey” Johns.
I was quite amazed at his surfing.
Who would have thought any footy heads could surf at all.

Time is relative my friend and if I had you , for any amount of time , then my work , I deem , is to have been a success.

If you read the sports pages for the past ten years it's been quite common to have seen a pic or two of him surfing that Jo :D y Johns.

I'm amazed YOU can surf Rockpools......well I use that term loosely.

Shit I have to be nice/polite/friendly..........sorry ok yeah KK you're a great surfer and I imagine it would've been surprising for you to see Andrew Johns catch a few. Did he drop in on you?
