What is the Maimonides Society?

The Maimonides Society was founded by APCSIP in June 2004, as an informal gathering where grantmakers could meet over a glass of wine, listen to a stimulating talk and exchange ideas. It is now managed by the Swinburne Philanthropy Alumni.

It is named after Moses Maimonides (1135-1204) a physician, teacher and scholar from Cairo. Maimonides famously proposed eight modes of charity, ranging from the least (to give sadly) to the most virtuous (to give a loan or a job rather than a gift, so preserving the recipient’s self-respect and encouraging self-help).

Well that explains your posts then.

Anyone got a contest link for the office-bound?

Thanks mate. The English one isn't working, but the Porto version is a treat.

First thing everyone sees walking into this office is my monitor. I'll be walking a fine line today.

Slater goneski!!! Aussies certainly need to capitilise on this now, and not fall by the wayside in Rd 5!!

Slater was overscored on his first wave IMO anyway, so it was good to see the Brazzo get the win in the dieing seconds of the heat.

Boo, I'm pretty sure that's the locally geneated E/SE tradewind swell you can see marching by out the back?

Correct.

swell direction is pretty west, which accounts for the waves which run and grow onto dry reef.

Yeah, it looked like windswell Don.
When's the swell meant to arrive? Tomorrow?

Boo, forerunners arrived this afternoon (tahiti time) combined with a smaller SW groundswell. Swell should peak overnight, with some solid swell early morning tomorrow (tahiti time).

yeah correction.

swell is pretty ssw. far more apparent when you can see everything. Those end ones are just ssw drifters getting pulled back onto the end of the reef.

pretty fcuken iffy that first bit of swell, feels as if it's filling now though.

If it's running late then Nick, then that would tend to indicate it won't be as big as forecast tomorrow??

How's Mr KS doing after his defeat?

seems like the earlier more westerly component of the swell (209degrees via stormsurf, which corresponds to the first incarnation south of NZ) is being replaced by better quality swell with more southerly component

i wonder if nick's popped out for a sunset surf. i wonder what he'd do if a wave like jeremy flores' 10 came straight at him and all the prosurfers he'd stinkeyed on the way out were keeping their distance, would he pull in or what!

wouldn't it be a bit like an afternoon at the cricket? but with girls in bikinis all around and the odd humpback whale breaching in the background.

Here's a proposition.......did JJF throw his Rd 4 heat so he'd be surfing the peak of the swell in Rd 5 tomorrow morning? I mean that's probably the worst I've seen the kid surf his backhand.

Parko's Rd 4 heat with Hobgood was insane.....fecking best heat of the day hand's down and non stop swell!!!!
