I don't surf with them often due to when/where I surf but they hold a similar advantage over shortboards.
Maybe.
But what the longboard picks up in being able to paddle marginally earlier, it loses out to the shortboards ability to take off later and closer to the curl.

I find in general, longboarders have become better behaved in mixed lineups.
Probably because most of the cnut longboarders started SUPping.

Shortboarders for decades have been shamelessly ruthless in using their paddling advantage over bodyboarders and body surfers.

I think the big advantage they had twenty years ago is gone. Heaps more fish, midlengths, etc. Bondi used to have a pack of longboarders that pretty much dominated an average day…..and they couldn’t all surf very well. Most of those guys seem to pop up when the Mal Club has a comp these days if at all. Still a few around but there’s lots of soft boards and learners on mals and midlengths.

Exactly, to everyone but Trev

I don't have anything to do with bodyboarders or body surfers.

I will now that it's here. But If Sydney was locked down as it should have been I would have waited till Sep 14 when I have my booking.

Need a Ring of Steel to keep blow ins out of the surf around here. It was like a holiday down the beach this morning. Long waits for a wave but nice conditions. Got more crowded as it got nearer to midday and the tide dropped.

Interesting that Sydney tides seem to happen at roughly similar times to North Carolina.

High about 9, low about 3:30.
And, BTW, almost the exact opposite of what should be theoretical highs and lows.

Hold on, not that it makes a huge difference, but we're currently on dst, so back my times up an hour.

Smaller than yesterday with a cross wind but caught a few - water temp nice for this time of year (missing the colder SW winds).

It felt cold when I first went in today but forgot about it after an hour or so. Water was warmer yesterday I reckon.

Micro surf with a gang of enthusiastic kooks. Still can’t believe I usually still score a few without getting run over.

The usual break up at Bondi is clumps of girls on foamies who just talk to each other. Mature learners on foamies who just go straight. Then semi competent foamie and midlength riders. Guys on old surfboards who don’t know how to paddle them let alone stand up. Then kids on foamies who paddle around frantically trying to catch waves plus dads pushing their kids onto waves. Male and female Trad log riders who have varied ability. Finless foamie riders. Old codgers trying to snare a few and hpsb riders getting frustrated.

All this on a barely breaking but fast left in the knee high range.
