Owen Wright to retire due to the slim chance of him being able to requalify for the championship tour.

Unpacked my boards this morning after a sort sleep from 3am to 6am. One was unmarked, the other had damage to both rails about 2' down from the nose.

It looked like someone had hit each rail with a sledge hammer and it had smashed the rail about 3" deep by 3" wide on both sides.

I dropped it off for repair and checked the surf. At 11am it was consistently head high on a high tide with only a few out, elected to wait until the tide was lower, so hit it at 1pm with a mate.

It was uncrowded and consistent with a slight offshore. Surfed for two hours and called it a day when I got dragged down the reef by all the draining water after I was caught inside by a long set of good sized waves

Good stuff Cranky. Baggage handlers suck.

You seem to get more damage than anyone cranked.
Notwithstanding the fact that Perth baggage handlers are probably all on ice, how do you pack your board bag?

I've got really good quality board bags, they are all made for windsurfing boards that are bigger and heavier than surfboards. Also foam nose and tail protectors about a half inch thick for each board. And I often add an addition layer of foam another half inch thick.

I've watched baggage handlers throw them onto the ground. They use the momentum from the conveyer belt to throw them a good 10 to 15 feet away.

Why? Because the boards are awkward and time consuming to unload and the conveyer belt is set too fast. There's only room for two two unloaders to work, one each side, so they just want them quickly out of way.

Some damage is so severe that I think it's caused by putting my boards sideways on the trolley so that they stick out either side and hit something in transit. This one was a 7' 10", but it was damaged both sides so they must have found some knew and more effective procedure to fuck them up.
