Re: Just general surfing stuff
High performance mals are great in just the same way hpsbs are fun.
Logs are very dull and booring to ride. FFS, the boringness is so monumental that they have ended doing really stupid things like cross stepping to the nose, standing on the nose, etc. etc. If that doesn't reveal how truly boring riding a log can be then you can just go straight to the tard thread.

I have a performance mal that doesn't get much use. Not looking to sell but If you want a crack to see if it's what you're looking for, let me know.Davros wrote:Def looking at turns before nose riding.

Make it Tufflite
Re: Just general surfing stuff
Superb construction for hp mals, light enough to throw around, strong enough not to break

Then the key thing is the amount of rocker, and the amount of tail lift is what is important making the board easier to throw around.Davros wrote:Def looking at turns before nose riding.
My Micheal Cundith mal has 3 3/4'' nose and 3 1/4'' tail which are the ball park numbers for a modern high performance mal.

Tsk, tsk, Cranky. Nose riding is one of the greatest things you can do in small point surf......and hard to do properly.
While I've been thinking of grabbing a tuflite mal for ease of luggage it's the weight of a mal that allows it to get momentum and glide.

It's a big drive but natural necessity has try out boards. They also stock firewires so possible you could try the TJ pro. 3 day hire I think $25?Davros wrote:Ta Channels I willchannels wrote:I have a performance mal that doesn't get much use. Actually may do that, might be heading to Jevis to see a mate. Big fan of Werrie so could be a plan.

Ring ahead and they can usually tell you what sizes they have to rent.Davros wrote:Actually may do that, might be heading to Jevis to see a mate. Big fan of Werrie so could be a plan.

Would you say it was pleasant?saltman wrote:Just watched the final of the long boarding contest in China
I gotta admit I found it quite pleasing to watch especially the rides with the combo of nose riding , carves and cross stepping
About the only thing....apart from a fish you could ride out there.

Thanks Carvin. I really enjoyed that.
I don't know what to think of the guy outside of the fact he is a tremendous surfer. I love watching him surf shortboards. While Tom Curren is reserved and quite I would say there is a bit of anxiety surrounding Lynch. Nick Carroll gave a little more insight when he claimed he couldn't handle the pressure of making Tom Carroll a surfboard.

He sure could put those early shortboards on rail, noticed in one bit of footage he moves his backfoot across before burying the rail.
I guess he feels conflicted by surfing, in that he loves what it is, but hates what it has become (story about trying to drown that wave hog a good example).
Reckon most Realsurfers would enjoy it and find it pheasant.
Re: Just general surfing stuff
By any measure, 'Uncharted Waters' is an excellent Australian social history documentary. That it includes some great surfing is just a bonus.

Lynch was really the first person to put a lot of modern moves together.....as the doco points out.
