Have a Downunder board I bought second hand on the Central Coast in 85. Chunky thing - very flat rocker - about 8'4. Single fin - has an 80's winged fin. Makes the most ridiculous humming noise if catching waves with any sort of speed. Not sure where the boards were made.

Kid at the top of the stairs at Birdrock this morn, with a MORE board. I guess it shows how dedicated some shapers surfers are!!

Wayneo at byron bay pawnbrokers or craig out the arts factory have got some amazing examples of now defunct Nth coast surfboard brands if anyones ever got the time

Yep Mt Woodgee are still around, factory at Currumbin and shop at Burleigh.

Hot Stuff has a shop at Burleigh, but I’m not sure about the boards.
( Alan Byrne might be shaping a few boards under that name )

Laguna Bay still going and making longboards.

Darby has packed his bags and sailed of in search of adventure on the high seas. Geoff built an awesome sailing catamaran.

Now here are a couple of names I think have gone:

I used to ride a Crozier twin fin in the early 80's. A bit unusual then becasue Crozier made kneeboards mainly.

I know he is still around but i also had a grant miller 'Hot dot'. Which was a great board.

Chris Crozier tragically passed away a fair few years ago now.
Bruce Hart continues the legacy with Flashpoint in Brookvale. Very similar logo and the same dedication.
From one kneeboard brand to another Friar Tuck, the Ware brothers very high profile back in the day. Moved to Byron with some real enigmatic shapers, lost another in Albert Whiteman; but David Parkes is still banging out the kneeboards. David’s son is non-other than Garrett Parkes.
Two more kneeboard logos Earthrise and Kneeon... gone.
Rockpool out of Avalon, Bruce McKee. Who also shaped for for KC and Darby. Now living in Europe and the undisputed Quad King…..I think the resident Dalai Lama, and his little bro TC may have even saddled up some of “Crosbies” four finned freaks.

2nd Reefer and other Nulla boys would recall "Colour of Thought".
Then at Brookie - and these are all probably for the older brigade. Gordon Woods, Keyo, Dale, Scott Dillion, Wallace - yeah I know a lot have been given a new Mal life now - but many a Wednesday sport arvo was spent wandering the Harbord Rd environs checking out their factories. Hutchison was another opposite the Mall.
