4,000kJ forecast for today. Impossibles closes out at that size, except for an outer reef right at the northern end.

I'd be taking a trip to some breaks that will handle that size swell but the traffic is so bad in Bali that's its now dysfunctional, really dangerous and exhausting (riding in the gutters for half the time).

Mate came across a bike accident yesterday. The rider was underneath his bike, full face helmet filled with blood and face an unrecognisable mess, right arm and leg still twitching.

This could be my last trip to Bali. I spent 20 years not surfing Bali (just went to other then uncrowded islands) from 1990 to 2010.

But then noticed Ulus was quiet and it stayed that way until a few years ago. Development here is mind boggling and as ugly as sin, the road system is totally overwhelmed, it will take at least a decade to fix but they probably won't even try.

Such a shame, coz the waves are still coming in just like always.

They're long gone buddy, I'm the last remnant. Currently only about 30% are native English speakers, the rest from just about everywhere.

Time to head back to the other islands and more time in WA. The dangers of the road system and the suicidal riding and driving is the most important reason to stay clear of Bali now.

That’s sad, Cranky. You’ve had a real connection there for a very long time.

My god, it was so beautiful out there today. Yesterday too, but today I found some sweet ones on the inside. 3 barrels! Unheard of!

Had a look at the beaches. Bondi is one big closeout as expected. Maccas was throwing out some filthy barreling peaks for the committed thrill seekers and lid riders. Bronte solid and about 50 guys on the reef.

Just checking Impossibles. Picture perfect, glassy, small ripples on the faces, 30 out at western end, 10 at eastern end, 8' set of 15 waves on its way. Couple of decent waves caught, everyone else caught inside as the set staircased.

Ulus big and nasty, not many out.

Still plenty of expert level shredding going on Vic.

Had to be patient and ready to strike like a cobra when it was go time.

Not for the non-confident.

Any signs of weakness ruthlessly dealt with.

I paddled out in the semi dark at the local expecting a bit less energy than yesterday.
Got out pretty good and then there was a relentless step ladder set, scratched under the first 3 and flogged by the 3 after.
Good start.
Got a good barrel though.

No crowds whatsoever down here.
Just had to pick non-closeouts.
