Fuck that. I get the reasoning but no way I want to go somewhere like that.
I’m going to be too busy anyway setting up my Bondi surf guide business
Way too late, bro. Happens all the time at Bondi when it’s little. There’s a number of surf coaches as opposed to surf school classes that will have a couple of usually female novices or kids and coach them into waves. Even giving them a push. Most give at least lip service to inside has right of way but they will paddle them inside and tell them what waves to catch. Often paddling for the wave themselves then giving it to their customers.
Unfortunately they continue like that on their own.
First saw the situation in Bali probably 10 years ago at Keramas.

Interesting story from Stu on Swellnet. Be interested in Cranked’s thoughts. Looks totally fucked to me.

https://www.swellnet.com/news/surfpolit ... esian-push
The old style surf school usually had around 10 or less learners and one or two guides and you'll often see two or more surf schools at the same break. Not a lot of waves were caught but there were a lot of learners to get in the way.

The big change was when the guides started pushing their clients into the waves. Their students loved it and the schools quickly adapted to 3 or 4 guides doing the pushing.

The easier the wave the more likely that its going to have learners and surf schools.

The east coast has more friendly waves and more surf schools, and its mainly November to February. West Coast a lot less. Most popular is a protected little cove just around the corner from Padang Padang. It's on there nearly every day.

Impossibles starts about 200m down the reef but it's rare to see any learners there. The guides know what's happening and they hit a lot of the good surf spots when the conditions are right (ie easy).

In reference to that article, just don't surf the easy spots and you'll rarely have any problems.

There are some spots which hold bigger waves and my experience is the guides will usually let you get your waves, that is they'll see you and won't push their client into a drop in situation.

Don’t think the word “perfect” is really appropriate.

Yeh and isn’t that spot (Porthleven) always packed because it’s the only a-grade wave around?

Nice set-up, breaks once a blue moon.

Problem for English surf is Ireland, which blocks most of the swell.

Unless you have a certain storm track, which brings fcuked winds.

it's tidak bagus.

to be fair, I never surfed Porthleven- it was flat or howling onshore when I was there.

I did most of my surfing at Putsborough- a kind of weird, jangled, semi but not really point break.

Or the vastly overrated Croyde.

I did manage to rattle off a few close-out reos per session.\

I noticed UK surfers did not usually have a close-out reo in their repertoire- which surprised me.

I had a great day surfing today.
Once the south wind started puffing up I hit these sneaky lefts.

Now it’s southerlies for the next week so I’m probably done for a while.

There you go buddy, chapter and verse. There’s one good wave in the UK that works once a year and none of us know how to do reo’s

Even our wavepool gets blocked by Ireland most of the time

The one that went broke?

Or the one that runs on beginner settings 99% of the time?
