It does help, just don't be driven by the "exact" design. If things start to go wrong then you're better to look at a design change than to try and fix it or make do with second best.
I have a few early boards that went for 9'1 to 8ft and from 6' to 5'10!

Got my hands on a 7'5" longboard blank so a mid-length finless board is on it's way soon. I'm not even going to put plugs in this one, it's going to be fully finless. Low rails, deep single and finger channels for hold. God help me in the glassing, going to use UV resin at least. Doesn't help the sanding though !

What about shaping on a patch of grass, surrounded by a timbre shack, and fields of long grass? Is that original?
