With winds predicted W to NW Monday I've got a big wave left along the cliff line pegged out.
Paddle-out at a protected point a mile away and drift down to it...
I expect 6-8ft with some bigger 10ft sets.

Got boards from 6'9" to 9'0" waxed and ready, hoping there won't be too much current so I can ride the 7'0".
Hope the fcuking skis don't show up.

Don't feel sorry for me NC! It ripped my guts out watching that last south swell but I'm gonna bog my ear up with blu-tac. I'm out there. Making plans as we speak.

how many cliff lines between Byron and Ballina : it's in full view of the coast road.

wow at the latest quikscat, still think models aren't positioning this low correctly, by the 5am quikscat it's still up near New Cal where models last night had it half way to NZ by now......jeez it's a beast.

When was the last time we saw a chart like this on the east coast?
I know what you are saying don but I've been watching this all week and it has just got better and better.

For those of us down Sydney way it has only been in the latter prognostic runs that it has fully developed into a low that would send something our way. It was still doubtful even a few days ago for us, while you northerners were locked in for this swell ages ago.

Looks big up your way, all we will be getting is long lines and offshore winds.

Perhaps it will go around to offshore for you some time.

Fcuk!

Tested my ear this arvo in 2ft waves at the Alley. Pulled into a tiny closeout barrel, and BOOM, there goes my eardrum again.

Fcuk!

Not gonna miss this bastard though. Got blu-tac and a swimming cap, and I don't care who laughs at me.

Given that it's rather obvious Huey doesn't like it when I call him a prick, I thought I'd start to be nice to him and re-commence calling him a legend.

Speaking of legends....anyone checked out the long range GFS charts....now that's what I call a legend.

EC is trying to formulate something in the Tasman in it's last model run as well.

Well it appears my bomb Tasman low for mid next week has all but gone, however I'm still going to be nice to Huey. Why?

Quikscat data has shown the current girl to the east of NZ is right on our swell window/shadow limitations (for SE Qld...she's completely gone for you southerner folk!!!). She's also taken her time to deepen, but she's also remained a few hundred k's further to the north than expected from the models late last week. So this is pushing back the arrival times of the peak swell from this girl. Biggest question (and very hard to answer) is how much swell will make it over the top of NZ!!!

So please be nice to us Huey :P

I don't share your enthusiasm Don but it is interesting to note
a. the magnificent swell window Fiji enjoys
b. where swells like these do end up wrt island chains near Aus.
c. NZ is good for nothing.

That would be because you've got much better things to look forward too, like a nice round of highly refracted super long period S'ly groundswell arriving about the same time as the peak in the smaller E/SE groundswell.

That highly refracted super long period S'ly groundswell will do absolutely nothing for my favourite SC beachie, hence I need to optimistically look eastwards for any hope in swell. Don't get me wrong, I'm not seeing anything huge....far from it....but still something from the east with a long period in it is way better than anything from the south for us SE Qld folk.

Perhaps the 30mm westward movement of NZ recently has made a big improvement to our swell window over the top of NZ

I reckon you'll see something Don, maybe a small 2ft+ at exposed locations, but pretty inconsistent. Let us know how you'll go.
