Your kidding right... all that coastline and there are surfable waves down there!!! I'll guess I'll have to head down that way now solely on the strength of those photo's.

The annoying things about Northern Beaches are trying to get home after midnight if you've been in the city. Trying to get up or down the coast on a Friday night after work.

I moved over from WA a couple of years ago for work and have been living in Manly. Yes I'm getting shafted for rent but I think everyone in Sydney does. Easy place to live though, Jetcat to the city in 15 mins when its working. Early and arvo surfs and good pubs so don't need much more. Although lea...

I did the paddle last year and it wasn't too bad. Mainly the pressure on the lower back and neck was more troubling than the distance was. I did a couple of practice paddles from Freshwater to Shelley beach and back and that had me pretty much sorted. Clubbies normally compete on a mal and dominate ...

Fair comment Nick, my aim is to have as much fun as possible when I'm out there. But I still think the swimmers should take some responsibility for their own safety... Today some would watch you surf towards them and duck underneath you or turn around and try and body surf the shoulder and generally...

My first trip to the tropics was about 10 years ago and a real eye opener to board design. Did three weeks in Indo and then a week in the Maldives. Had previously been beachbreaks with the occasional reef on the big days before the trip so my boards were designed around those conditions. The waves a...

Hitting swimmers

I had a fun early surf this morning but where I was surfing is normally where the flags would be during the day. Towards 6.30 it was getting crowded with swimmers who were placed halfway down the line and weren't keen to move even when you were headed straight for them. I tend not to deviate my chos...

Noosa

I'm heading off for a couple of weeks up Noosa way in a month's time. Tossing up whether to take a mal and a shorty or just one or the other. Has anyone had any experience with longboards and Virgin? Is it easier just to take the shorty and hire a mal on the small days?

Auckland

An option has come up to move to Auckland for a 12 month contract. Checked spots on wannasurf but wondering what the life of the Kiwi surfer is like? Are the spots close enough for before and after work sessions if I'm working in the city? Or is it a weekend only gig? Any info would be helpful.

About 10 years ago I stood in the carpark and saw a hollow wave breaking on the other side of the bay once. Thought I was better than I was, took the 15 minute paddle over. Paddled into a bomb set, got to my feet and got pitched onto reef about one foot under the water. Popped up in a fair bit of pa...

Cheers for all the advice guys. The big move is now on and I'll be over on that side of the country in the first week of September. Northern Beaches is the go for living. Looking forward to having a bash at Dee Why Point, the Bower or Queenscliff Bombie on the first decent swell.

North West of WA has some awesome waves. When wayback says take supplies, take absolutely everything you need... food, water, medical kit, tent, fishing rods, footy etc.. everything. The waves up Gnarloo way shouldn't be taken lightly however as your a long long bumpy ride from help if anything happ...

Last question I need answered. I have been looking around on the various websites for rentals and obviously have my limits. Is there generally a bit of negotiation room in the prices like there is in other cities ie Perth & Melbourne? Or is there such demand that its a landlords market?

Going to the Southern Ocean in the middle of winter, prepare to be colder than you've ever been before. If you get it with offshores you'll have the time of your life. I did the Vicco surf trip a few years back, awesome big & clean surf although that was in May although the main memory of how fricke...
