Re: Fiji 2014
The only way we will see a marked improvement is with time spent out in the water to learn the break and become confident in the expected conditions. Hopefully now that the girls know Fiji is in the mix, that they can get the time and the backing to make some experience gathering trips there and sur...

Re: Fiji 2014
Yes Steve and others, I agree the performances of most of the girls were sub par when compared to the men at the same venue but as I've said, with the limited experience that the majority of the girls have had in those conditions, they did well. Sure they are supposed to be the best but only the top...

Re: Fiji 2014
Yes the girls were not prepared for CB but most did a good job with what preparation that they did have. Most have never surfed CB and up until January and probably never thought they would need to. If you have seen what the majority of the girls have had to surf to try to qualify for the CT you mig...

Re: Fiji 2014
Yes I have to agree that the girls don't and probably won't get the aggressive go for anything anytime attitude that the men have, but if they get the time in the water at the heavier breaks in due course some will definitely stand up and be counted. I know from watching some girls in Indo that afte...

Re: Fiji 2014
Alright Legion maybe don't give them waves but don't snake them all the time and burn them all the time because you know they're not going to fight back like some of the blokes do. We don't want to make it too easy. But if a chick is having a bit of a go encourage them to pull in or crack the lip. S...

Re: Fiji 2014
Here are a few of my thoughts on the issue for what they are worth. I think the girls, bar a few, did a great job in some pretty testing conditions and as Nick says with only a small window in which to try and learn about the break. You'll find most of the girls have not had much opportunity to surf...

Volcano Ash cloud
I thought you fellas might be able to enlighten me on this. I know that our weather travels from our west to east and that Chile is across the Pacific to our east, so how is it that the ash cloud can come against the normal weather flow? Is it because the cloud is so high and the jet stream travels ...

Re: Billabong Pro Rio
Suprise, suprise a Brazo wins in Brazil. Didn't watch it all but seems a bit of a close call against Owen Wright in the quarters but I suppose you get the home town advantage at times.
Bring on J-bay and hope for some decent waves, not close out crap like Brazil!

Re: H3 Nexus...anyone tried 'em?
I surfed them in waves from very good point waves to reasonable beachbreaks and found they went better out of my board than in it! I really didn't like them at all sorry. SH

Re: H3 Nexus...anyone tried 'em?
I tried them in 2 different boards ( new 6'2" and a 6'5"),in very good and also reasonable waves. I had been using PC 5s in both boards and was happy with the PC 5s. Used the nexus for about 2 weeks and found them to catch off the top especially down the line speed turns and also made the boards a b...

Re: Prejudice in Surfing
Yeah, he lost me on page one as I said before and that is because I couldn't get past the anti semetic part. Surfers, as with others in the population, can and will be prejudice and not just to other races but to women, kids, tourists and kooks alike. At times it can be what equipment others ride ie ...

Re: Jumping from a quad to a thruster
Funny thing seeing this thread again as I started it back in 2009 before I went to Indo in the following March. Anyhow I took a quad and a longer thruster with me. I surfed the quad for a while and then we got a swell about 6ft so I took out the thruster and guess what? As soon as I got home I sold ...

Re: Industry rip offs
Allright cuttlefish, I can see where your coming from as we do like to buy wetties and stuff made OS due to the price and such but if we all buy imported boards what happens to the inovaters then? What happens to the glassers and sanders? There is government help to the surfboard manufacturers in th...

Re: Industry rip offs
Beanpole, I am no racist, what I object to is boards made offshore, not even signature models, flooding our market to the detriment of our local shapers and manufacturers. Sure wetsuits are made overseas as it doesn't take much of and idea to cut from a pattern and stich together the pieces but it d...

Re: Industry rip offs
Simon probably has gone that way to keep afloat. He once said if everybody who rides or owns a thruster each sent him a dollar he would be a very wealthy man. That he would be and I think we all could afford $1 for the man who in my eyes, advanced surfboard design by leaps and bounds from what it wa...

Re: Industry rip offs
I've seen with a lot of the shapers how much they are struggling to make ends meet these days with the market being oversupplied by the cheap imports. As someone has already said "little Johnny's mum will buy a cheap import rather than buy a custom for their first board" which used to be the local s...
