Think the soundtrack is what makes it so good. Used to know what scene it was whenever I heard any of the tracks. The Mighty Sunbird wrote: ↑Sat May 11, 2024 9:56 amIt’s also my all time favorite surf movie soundtrack. I got a Japanese copy on blue vinyl

Yep.
They found a burnt out car and one of the arrested guys had one of the Aussie’s phone.. I’d say it’s curtains for our intrepid travellers.

Melbourne isn’t Wavegarden technology is it? That’s the same as Wales I think?
That wave looks very ordinary compared to Melb. I was keen but not so sure now.

Re: Just general surfing stuff
I liked how on the ABC (both TV and radio) they got the press release wrong and said that the event will bring in 14,0000 visitors. And they kept it up all morning and night.
Sounds like a very conservative WSL figure.
edit: meant to type 14000.

I’ll check out some heats seeing as I’m still not back in the office much. Last event I went to was the one that Owen was gifted as part of his comeback fairytale.

Re: Just general surfing stuff
I’ll never forget the day I went from plastic to fibreglass fins. Dbah was pumping a few days in a row and I felt like I was surfing pretty well on my plastic fins and at that point thought the whole fin thing was bollocks. It was before I was living up here and was doing the relaxing commute back t...

Re: Summer
I remember this tiny cove I stumbled on during a solo trip years ago. Wasn't the most impressive setup, looked more like a local's secret spot. But the waves there had this chill vibe, perfect for just carving and connecting with the water. Made me realize the magic of surfing isn't always about mo...

The JS? I got a 5’9 Black Box a couple of years ago for $600 from the factory as a second. It was a surprisingly great all rounder. Actually still is and the reason it was a second was that the carbon strip up the stringer wasn’t quite straight. Bargain.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Yep was Xmas day. Can you imagine the circus now? To be fair it was pretty busy earlier in the day. But it used to be like that quite often and in the surf too. I’d watch it and there’d be 25 or so at the south end. And then it’d clear out and I’d go for a paddle. Often just after the tide change.

Didn’t it used to be free, Beans? Maybe a nominal fee of $30 or something.
