Then there was the Neumann's.
Neumann were the one at Currumbin, yeah?
The Neumann who started the concrete business (did he end up on council?) lived just below us in Singh St. Just had a tipper back then.

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Murphoyres I think I vaguely remember. Main farming families I knew were Pritchards, Juliuses of course, Stainlays who were some of my surf buddies and the Hawkies Transport Business. I wasn’t really up with the rugger buggers and farming dudes. Some of the crew at the beach had fathers who worked ...

Murphyores was a local concern. I think Dillinghams might have bought him out.

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Never heard it called Foysters Reef. Cudgen RZ and Dilliginghams ran the sand mining. Not saying these dudes weren’t involved but never heard of them. On further research…here you go. Must have moved up in the world by the time I got there. https://sconevetdynasty.com.au/the-fabulous-foysters/ The ...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Was a joke, Trev. He said it was when he decided to surf, but it sounded like he decided to do as his parents did I get it. But it brought back memories. Dad used to get seriously pissed and stagger home up Tugun hill after work but maybe only once every couple of months. The Sunday sessions happen...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

That’s the way it was, boo.
Spent a bit of time in my parents car outside the Tugun pub. On a Sunday mostly. Pubs were only open for a short while.

Re: Skin Cancer Check Up

Thanks gents- just posted this a reminder to get things checked no matter how innocuous. And yeah Trev - my best mate I bowl with here - might have told the story - after I had a melanoma taken out he said he's never had a skin check. Off he goes and next day is in Brisbane getting something hacked...

Re: Skin Cancer Check Up

All the best with it Merks.
Got a mate up here who lost half his jaw and teeth on one side when they started following a lump on his lip.
Years later, he’s clear, thanks to some wonder drug he got into the test program for. Think it’s now used widely.

Re: Just general surfing stuff

A little bit blurry, but a pretty good photo of the man-made waterfall that used to run down beside Greenmount Beach. It was lovely. The even better bit was the created forest creek above the first of the 3 waterfalls. A little fantasy, rocky, very natural looking, multi-stage burbling watercourse ...

I’ve only (knowingly) had any lengthy conversations with Russians.
They were lovely people.
Both Siberian engineers, work colleagues of my daughter in law.

A bunch of us "convinced" him to leave.
He must have been terrified

It was just a few years later. Many years later in fact.
And yes. He was advised to go fish somewhere else in future. Never saw him again.

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Even back before I moved to Sydney, near misses were common there. Including one I saw by the air sea rescue boat which was just training. No emergency. A bigger problem (well, more regular) was the fishermen on the rock casting straight into the crew in the water. One guy got caught through his ear...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

I was about 7 stone in those days How many kilojoules is that? :-)( Actually I probably got to 8 stone by the end of high school. About 50 kegs. I was a tall, lanky, skinny prick. Probably made beany look like Clive Palmer in comparison. I’m the same height I was in Yr 7. I was one of the tal...
