Re: Surfboard Reviews in Surf Mags

The thing that annoys me about those reviews is that nearly all the boards are exctly the same, ie squash tail thrusters with dimensions that would only suit 15 year kids or pros. How about reviewing some alternative shapes for different conditions in dimensions that normal guys would ride. That's m...

Re: What board size are you?

I am 50 years young and about 65kg and about 5'8"

Currently have a
Haydensahpes fibreflex squash tail 6'4" x 18 3/4 x 2 3/8
Jim Banks Mk III 6'2" x 20 1/4 x 2 1/2

Thinking of getting a JS Nitro model either 6' or 5'10" for those smaller days. Has anyone ridden one of these, feedback appreciated.

Re: Surf Lock - comments

I have one and love it, I attach it to a tow point which is under the car so it is non-obtrusive.

I never have to worry about losing my key or introducing saltwater into the locking mechanism from a wet salty key.

They are expensive, but they last forever.

Re: Webber Fat Burner - Opinions??

Hi Shifty I had a 6'2" fatburner thruster and didn't like it. It had too much foam for me. I am a bit older than you but a bit ligher as well. I would agree with Rich go to a few local shapers, take your current board and discuss want you want in the new one. Then go with the one who you feel the mo...

Re: Help with shortboard shape/dimensions

Mr Potato
Talk to Hayden Cox of Haydenshapes at Mona Vale, he is great to talk to and will give you good advice.

I have two of his boards and they are excellent.

His phone number is 9997 6698 or check out the website at

Futures all the way. Not only are their fins great, but I believe that their fin boxes offer greater strength of attachment than FCS.

Just bought a Jim Banks MKIII Flyer 6'2" x 20 1/4" x 2 1/2" it is great in small surf. Have also had it out in surf up to 6' and it goes great in the bigger stuff too.

Had a Webber Fatburner previous to that in similar dimensions and that did not work for me at all.

Have sold a few boards through Aloha at Manly. There were great all round. They help to set a price that the board will sell for, helping you to maximise what you will get.

They take $50 for selling the board and you have to also add the GST.

Dear Mr Chips I borrowed a mates Jim Banks MKIII a few weeks ago. I rode it in 3' offshore conditions at Nth Mona with a really nice inside bowly section. I was that impressed that I ordered one right away! The MKIII changed my ideas about what fish can do, I have ridden several other fish type boar...

The one thing I question in all this is the advice the average surfer gets to make his choice from either an off the rack or custom board option. I bought my last board from Haydenshapes and Hayden himself spent a fair amount of time with me on the design. The result was the best board I have ever o...
