stones that float
Dee Why to Longy stretch has a thick covering of pumice on the high tide line. Some have barnacle growth.
Anyone have an idea of their origin?

Re: Chasing the dragon
Fine line between and addiction and an obsession or even a passionate embrace. You don't get good unless you hover between those three gradations on the spectrum, for large periods of otherwise productive time. I've been there for thirty years and have probably transferred some of that devotion ove...

Re: Tahiti for not so big waves
Yep from the capital to Chopes are heaps of black sand beachies, though warn her they have some grunt. And some of the reef passes I thought were not particularly daunting (certainly not Chopes scary). Beachies were really packed when school came out. Save money by buying bread and roast chooks, rat...

Re: Bali Pro - Who's Ya Winner ?
Thank fcuking christ that is over. Got my phone pick-pocketed watching state of origin last night. Got attacked by fire ants, lost part of my toenail on the reef yesterday, was up all night literally with atomic level bali belly. I knew being the pathetic specimen of epidermis that I am, Bali would...

Re: getting old, dont want struggle on a shorty
Been dry for almost a year thanks to a spinal condition (thankyou, genes). Got wet for three days straight beginning of last week when there was some decent swell. Rode 7'2" Campbell Bros bonzer speed egg. Rounded pin. Spaghetti arms (knackered after two waves), back still as bent as a queensland po...

Re: Southy photo today - dolphin or shark?
Not a tiger, while freshly dead or still alive they are copper, cream, rusty brown. Also tail shape, and tail wrist, appears wrong shape. Then again maybe camera has distorted colours. It has the electrc blue and white of a mako, and bottom tail lobe is right shape, can't see top tail lobe, but who ...

Re: Southy photo today - dolphin or shark?
Mate who fishes for a living said the boat in pic does shark net, but reckons it's a massive mako rather than a tiger.

Oh and by the way, that ain't the shark net contractors boat in the above pic, and they stopped netting Sydney for this season at end of April.
Looks like a rec fishing charter vessel with all those rod holders.
So wonder who and what's going on there..........

Another fatal attack at Reunion Island. Honeymooner, with wife on beach. One report says he'd hired a bodyboard, others call him a "surfer". Shark hit him twice. Yep they only ever bite once..................

Re: 10 sharkiest waves In Aus
Was surfing a costa rican beach about 15 years ago. we had to cross a small creek entrance to the sea to get back to the 4WD. Did the paddle bit, were in knee deep water and looked back just to last check the surf. Saw a "log" 10 metres away, heading up the creek entrance. But the tide was going out...

Going to Aitutaki end of May to cross bonefish on home made lure off the must do before karking it list (hopefully). Been trying to suss surf there too. Precious little info. Same as has been said, uber shallow, and the few passes supposedly don't shelve properly for surf. At the same time there do ...

Yep and soon there may be white shoes tramping all over Cape York. Waiting for the first developer to take advantage of "relaxed" Cape York land clearing laws: "Yes of course it's a farm, it's just a farm with 120 "silos" which happen to have ducted air con, wrap around balconies and granite topped ...

Re: The FreeRideVoice
stand-ups ride back foot, while kneelos are, umm, front-foot surfers. in the old slab days, you sat forward on the board, but leaned back on the tail. while, as i understand it, stand-ups at the time were front-foot surfing. when stand-ups moved to backfoot, kneelos moved to sitting further back an...

Re: The FreeRideVoice
First 20 years of 38 years surfing was on my knees. Same attraction; back then crips were a cult within a cult and few cared what others thought. Started cause dad would swim DY rock pool when I was a tacker and while I waited and watched the point Crawford seemed to be having the most fun, at least...

Breaks spotted in non-surfing docos
Anyone spotted waves in docos, tv shows which have nothing to do with surfing. The question about Broome in another thread reminded me of a pefect, glassy three foot left point break which features for about five seconds in a fishing DVD which had a story about Broome shore fishing and came with a m...
