I got stung on the face at Newport yesterday (OOOUUUCChh !!) I went to the surf club. They said extremes of hot or cold will help. They gave me a bag of ice. Helped a bit, but still hurt like hell for about a further 3 hours. Apparently they dont use viniger anymore because if there are any little s...

I surfed that break last year. It's an average wave that gets supercrowded with every form of surfcraft you can imagine ! I can see how problems would happen there.

I wonder how many times a shark like that has wandered along a crowded lineup without anyone realising it !! a mate of mine went on one of those white shark tours in South Africa. Says they were following a 5m great white along the beach similar to that photo, about 50 to 100m behind the break. He r...

Yeah I read the article as well. Part of there studies were on why there isnt more attacks in that particular area, as sharks were coming very close to shore at a certain time of year. Apparently they weren't as interested in feeding when they were very close to shore. That gave them the confidence ...

Its already happening here, but usually amongst people who have been long time surfers. a kind of 'sub culture' within the business community. Went on an unofficial 'corporate' surf day myself recently.

When did people stop using the wave back ?? Most surfers know that a '3 foot wave' in all reality has a higher face than that. But you dont need to turn around and look at the back it to realise its a 3 foot wave either, because you already know the size by looking at the face (if that makes sense )...

There is a colony of them in the harbour near Manly. Have seen them in the surf quite a few times, even right in at Manly beach. They make a high pitched squarking sound when they surface.

Given Dee Why & Long Reef are really the same beach, it would be hard to go past it. Quality Point Break at the southern end, good beach breaks in the middle, and numerous reefs at the north end and offshore.

I went to the Phillipines about 5 years ago, but stayed up the northern areas. Great place, similar to Indo with added bonus that English is very widely spoken. Surf is good but fickle. Troubles down south are around the southern parts of Mindanao. You should be alright around Siargo which is off th...

I saw a huge whale and its calf just behind the break at Hawks Nest last winter. Calf came right into the break. It was so far in I thought it was going to beach itself
