The seal rocks/treachery area is a good hours drive from the Mungo area. There is a really bad backroad from near Mungo to Seal rocks, but apparently it has recently been closed by the national parks ? so you need to go all the way out to Buladelah. Take your point Johnno, I wouln't use one around Sydney, but maybe on deepwater reefs in white pointer territory.

Hammerheads are always regarded as aggressive, but when was the last time someone was attacked by one ?

Shark Shields

I was looking in Gowings in the city the other day and they sell shark shields. Its apparently some sort of sonar that scares off sharks if they come to close. It fits onto the lower leg like a shin pad, but with the sonar bit at the back. The Antenna appears to double as a leg rope. Looks a bit clu...

Dont do it.

Seems like a good idea at first, but if the surf is on, you usually just grab your stuff, jump in the car and go.

If you have a female with you, they will usually spend upwards of half an hour 'getting ready'

Haven't actually surfed it, but sat on the point and watched in last year when it was about 4 foot but onshore and really bumpy. To get the 400m rides, the outside swell would need to be humungous. I surf alone a couple of hours up the coast from Sydney all the time. I quite like it. I dont seem to mind it if its sunny and the water is nice and clear. I get nervous if its overcast and cant really see into the water around me though.
