keeping your car cool, stopping wax melting
Can anyone recommend a good car cover or cooling system to stop your spare boards getting hot and wax melting inside your car, either while parked at work or at the beach?
I have a couple of ideas:
1. A solar powered fan, possibly incorporating a Peltier device to cool the inside of the car. (Not sure if it will work, thermodynamics, efficiency etc).
A Peltier device is used in car cooler/warmers; you put current in, one side gets hot, and the other gets cold.
2. A board bag type material that covers the roof and windows, with vents.
3. park under a tree.
If anyone has any ideas id be glad to hear them, and if you want to borrow one of mine, go ahead. (10% inventors fee )

Need a lockable under-car rack.
A few simple welds on the bottom of ya car to set up the racks and viola!
from the rear of your car push the nose of your board into the front rack and then lock the tail of ya board with the rear rack.
Boards would get heaps more ventilation than in the car and would not be exposed to daylight or radiant heat. And it would be safe coz you lock it up with a big fuck off padlock (whereas in a car all you need to do is break the windows).
You could prolly only fit one or two boards under a normal car though, and you would have to engineer the racks well so that they wouldn't hinder normal driving.
DONT DRIVE OFF WITH YA BOARD IN THE UNDER-CAR RACK !!!

if the wax is in a cooler bag then when you get to the beach it will be cooler than the wax on your board. This means when you wax up the board it takes the softer stuff off or just smears it instead of the other way round. Surely this happens to a few people. I have started putting the wax in the board bag now because of this. Same temp.

Might be able to help you there Marcus.marcus wrote: 3. park under a tree.
The solar fan has been done... I think (well sometimes).
cheers guys
when i was talking about the wax melting, i was refering to the wax on the board.
also my little brother once had my first ever board in his car, he was into riding a single fin at the time.
he left the car in the sun, well his mechanic did. and the whole fibreglass and foam rail down one side warped and collapsed leaving a one inch deep channel down the rail.
im trying to avoid that sort of stuff.

If you can screen the windows on the outside rather than the inside its more efficient.
(tuck the reflectors into the doors so someone won't flog it)
There was a solar fan a while ago, that ran along the top of the window. jamming in when the window was wound up, meaning no security problems.
You can do the trick of using tropical wax as a base, with a top layer of regular wax - this will mean its not going to melt and slide off the board.

I leave my boards in the car all day...every day while at work.
Best investment is a good quality 10mm tight fitting board cover to minimise any air gaps inside the cover that can heat up(I use FCS explorer covers).....& dry your board off before placing it in the cover to stop the "sauna effect". If it's gonna be a really hot day I'll try & park in the shade....if not I leave all the windows down approx. 2cm , lay a white towel over the board & use reflective windscreen shades. It helps if you have a white car. Been doing this for years & haven't cooked a board yet....never really had much of a problem with melting wax either.
