Bugger. Actually there is a silver lining for me. That high pushes the lows in the bight south, so not so windy in Vic.steve shearer wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2019 7:35 amNext week a large high looks set to direct a pretty much straight E'ly onshore flow over NENSW/SEQLD.....exactly the patten which has bedevilled us all summer/autumn.
Today and tomorrow will be the cleanest days.
it's about 6ft on the sets right now.....glassy/lumpy....very average due to no sand bank. The odd one standing up on the depth contour. 5/10.

If so, I checked their just after 7.30 this morning. It was doing the backwash thing. Some lefts still coming through, but looked like it was pinching off quick and flubbery.
I kinda had the opposite problem once the tide started running out. Every wave was pitching top to bottom, onto a waist deep sandbank. couple of cover ups I came out of, but got rolled good on a few also. would’ve been a great boog wave.
4-6 ft powerful and pumping this morning. got proper thrashed a couple of times.
Re: Where did you surf today ?
I went for the Xcel Drylocks. I'll report back. Every time I've tried booties, I've given up after a couple of waves, but I reckon my circulation is getting worse because I'm only getting about an hour before I can't feel a thing and surfing becomes pointless. Gonna have to push through to get used to 'em.
Re: Where did you surf today ?
I've been using booties for years now, due to a nerve problem in my feet. They actually help with feeling the board.ajohnsen wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2019 10:01 amI went for the Xcel Drylocks. TBH I never had a problem adapting to them.
Persevere a bit longer than a few waves. Like a couple of weeks and I promise you won't notice them any more.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

What's your choice in booties, Trev ?
There's heaps of options, including Legion's weirdo latex options. Like something from a Quinton Terrontino flick.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
I thought this swell was going to be an overhyped let down but it's really going all out.
onshore 4-5ft here this morning with no sand.
Swellnet is breathlessly calling it a 9/10.
Fcuking joke.

The Pass was looking good on the cams earlier?
Re: Where did you surf today ?
Yeah thanks legion.
How old are you?
I'll certainly cop to slower pop ups these days. But I find if it's a steep take off I can still get to my feet quickly. Just lazy really, most of the time. I've got all day, all week, all month...……..
To answer Offy, my first pair were Quicksilver, then a pair of Rip Curl with a separate big toe slot.
The current pair are cheapies from Sideways Surf. Got a trident logo on them FWIW. Also split toe.
All have been fine.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
When I was a teen, I had a mate who was a really good surfer and totally (stupidly) fearless. He had a two-stage pop up which was quite slow. He was a goofy and loved big South Narrabeen lock-ins. I have no idea how he made the drop on those things. He also loved that left next to pipe in front of Collaroy Surf Club. My memory of it was, when the swell was big, that thing would throw, really close to shore. He'd always come up, grinning from ear to ear, covered in sand. He became an alcoholic and jumped in front of train when he was about 21.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Re booties. I've gave up on them decades ago as I find my feet stick to the board too much.
I've been told though, that the secret is to just put a very thin film of wax on your board.
Does anyone agree?

I still wax my board but not every time I surf.
