Then it was just me.
I think I caught over 50 waves. I started letting perfect waves go through unridden, just for the hell of it.
me too. must have caught about 50 waves in not quite 2 hours. no backpackers or bait balls though.

8’6 Rawson, didn’t really need it for the wave but it’s a lot of paddlingWyre wrote: ↑Wed Aug 29, 2018 7:42 pmWhat kind of board did you use out there?Nick Carroll wrote: ↑Wed Aug 29, 2018 6:20 pmWoooo 10’ plus plus back bombie ledges, just me for 90 mins then a couple of kids for another 90mins
Splendid swell, so much energy, some seemingly more from an east angle but probably just long interval distorting on the continental shelf, the rest pouring up from quite an acute sth angle.
Heaps of it though, jumping up on the ledge, cool takeoffs driving into long drops and open water turns. I got totalled by one, the biggest one I got, 12’+? Took off for the hell of it because I was in the right spot, the steepest bit, kinda did a double drop going over a little ledgey bit half way down, easy though. Then it semi closed out to the far edge of the bombie reef. Oh great. Straightened out and tried to ride out the whitewater a bit but knew I was doomed. It chucked me through the air and I landed on my balls and got pulverised while in full ball ache mode.
Gorgeous morning today, I haven’t checked it yet but I bet it’s Fabulous

Oh and trev it’s looking a tiny bit brighter for you now - the fetch has shifted across and up a bit and is kinda pointing in part at the Goldie etc, 25-30 knot winds, about 2.5 days off I’d imagine
Plus looks like an easterly flow is trying to establish itself north of NZ out toward the Cook Islands etc, maybe next week you will see 3-4’ inconsistent surf from that.

Assuming you weren't undergunned as Bal was only 5-6ft for the early.steve shearer wrote: ↑Wed Aug 29, 2018 7:37 pmI had so much fun today on the kind of in between day which everyone forgot to look at.
I'll take the 6'3"and hope I'm undergunned.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
beachies were close to pumping this morning.
Re: Where did you surf today ?
8 footers about but with the wind into it. Opted for a semi protected 5 foot peaky reef with an angourie style inside bowl. Only one other bloke out.
Time for second breakfast. Then another go out somewhere else

Re: Where did you surf today ?
woooo still kinda honking this morning. No back bombie action, some energy gone out of the swell but pretty solid 6-8' chunks everywhere, all the directions the same as last night. Clean as, really nice wind that threatened to go NW for a while but then veered back toward the south around 9am. Crazy sand redistribution, I reckon a quarter of Newport is now around at Bilgola.
Re: Where did you surf today ?
Good to see the boys giving it a nudge while I am out of action.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Pretty hoaxy here.
I honestly thought, even though the fetch was well aimed at southern NSW that we might see some 6foot sets, just due to the period.
nah, it was a weak and wobbly 3-4ft. Slow. With the very occasional mindlessly perfect set wave spinning on the sandbank.
I made a mistake of just sitting out there, wide on the corner button thinking a set wave I had imagined being formed in that region of the lower Tasman might arrive. Which it didn't. My head was not in the game.
Then I started to get fascinated with how the psychological reality of an intense, super skilled crowd were managing to divvy up a resource that was clearly scarce.
Mostly the vibe was neutral to positive. Shudders of ecstasy went through the crowd as perfect waves spiralled down the sandbar, then a kind of black humoured mindset as the reality dawned that the next one could be a long way away, or never.
The subtle and manifold trickery and jockeying to position oneself in the prime spot was in full effect.
It was not unpleasant.
I finally got on the deep side of a wedge that was doubling up perfectly....a wave that kept giving and giving.
How many do you need....I say one.

Up a metre from yesterday this morning.Nick Carroll wrote: ↑Thu Aug 30, 2018 6:58 amOh and trev it’s looking a tiny bit brighter for you now - the fetch has shifted across and up a bit and is kinda pointing in part at the Goldie etc, 25-30 knot winds, about 2.5 days off I’d imagine

Young Riley Thompson who rips on mals, caught one way outside. I was paddling prone towards him. He was trimmed and flying so not at the bottom of the wave, but from my position about 20 metres from him there was still heaps of wave above his head. He's 6'2" ish, like me. And that was the wall, not the takeoff peak.
Beautiful to watch.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

And just got in from surfing a breakwall outer bar that was doing its best rendition of a QLD point break. Solid five foot. Absolute long bitch of a paddle out and current running all over. But dreamy walls reeling off down the line.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
This swell was about half the size of last weeks swell here.
Amazing how many hoax swells we've had this year.
Still the biggest swell by a country mile was the S swell we had in the first week of jan.
