Where did you surf today ?

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Very fast waves mind you. Very light board, high volume rails, flat rocker, lots of fin area, super sharp rails, lots of rail contact with the wide point forward and straight through the fish tail.

It was so fcuking loose it was nearly unreadable. I swapped the quads around, large rears, small fronts. Otherwise I'd have to give it a 12 out of 10 for looseness.

No, you can ride wide tailed boards from the tail so the settled rail line, combine that with tail rocker and the wetted rail is, guessing, 15 inches.Legion wrote: ↑Fri May 04, 2018 8:26 pmWidth. A simple analogy I'm more confident about is skis. I'm reasonably competent and can muscle around my ~115mm waist skis and do some short radius turns. But give me some 63mm slalom skis and and I could blow them away. It's simply much slower to tip the extra width from edge to edge.
Same thing with your fat tailed fish. There's no way it can be as fast rail to rail as an 18.5" wide hpsb with a pulled in tail, right?
It also has a deep V in the tail (edit)
Plus I'm talking small waves here

Well, that too.

I love the fact that we have an 83 year old on RS that still talks about rails and rocker and turning a board. Give him a break you resident rippers. He spends most of his time surfing good waves. I reckon he’s got it more dialled than most fellas.

Plus, legion’s ski analogy is patently ludicrous
Re: Where did you surf today ?
I checked a few of those wasps and the short eggy xf boards of his. Those rails are ginormous, put me right off. At 90+ I thought I'd have to go down to a 5'6" to avoid too much volume, which would then be too little rail length. Might wave to go and rent one for a few days and see.

They look fun for micro peelers.
I want Nightclub Dwight dead in his grave I want the nice-nice up in blazes

Head high is perfect so far. Maybe bigger.
I first tried it with the quad set I normally use, large front/small back. It was way too loose. Swapped them around and it looks like a twinzer now and is much more balanced imo.

Try the DVS Quad set. Bit like those butterfly fins from a few years back.
Pretty funky boards. Deck concaves etc...
I ride a mates 6ft for a few weeks. Fun board. Bloody wide but worked.

Looks like a good day for the "mid length".
Had a listen to Devon Howard's podcast on surfing 7ft eggs in double over head surf. He's evangelical. Also mentions several times how Joel Tudor (a friend) is unimpressed with him using side bites instead of going a straight single.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Joel Tudor calls em training wheels and gets stuck into anyone that uses them. He seems like a bit of a DH.
Re: Where did you surf today ?
A single feels a lot cleaner and covers more ground. But much more unforgiving than a 2+1 if your timing or positioning it even slightly off. 2+1 is more versatile for sure.
Re: Where did you surf today ?
So modern day single fin fools are happy to use modern foils, modern rails and even modern bottom contours but side fins, which add a lot, are forbidden? Haha surfing is funny
