I believe it's only about $150 US. Thought I might organise going back to Sri Lanka in the next year or so. Haven't been there since before the Civil War in 82. A trip to the Maldives would be a pleasant add on.
Just wonder if organising boat trips from the airport straight up would create difficulties.

The Airport at Malé is on its own island, and boat trips pick-ups usually start there, so no would be the answer.Beanpole wrote: ↑Wed Dec 13, 2017 10:06 pmI believe it's only about $150 US. Independent travel's a relatively new thing in the Maldives (last ten years or so), so it might be tricky I guess. Depends what you're intending to do. Speculatively flying into Male and hoping to pick up a spot on a boat probably won't work but if you book in advance with someone like Surf Atoll (http://www.surfatoll.com/shared-charters) then it would be fine

82....the original guy who hit it up...Tony Hushain?....I think...was landing and getting supplies to go back. One of two opportunities I missed on that trip. NiAs was the other. Still got lots of waves.

Re: Sri Lanka to the Maldives
Yeah, I got put off by a guy who had been there. We were staying in a dive in Singapore waiting to buy our tickets to Sri Lanka. A guy staying there had been. Told us it wasn't very good and "you keep drifting off the back of the wave". Later realised he wasn't giving us the real info. Maldives at that stage was a local open boat ride to get there.
