have they ever cancelled a comp due to lack of swell? maybe we're about to make history here?

Re: snapper pro
They did cancel the 2013 Roxy Pro in Biarritz, after 5 days of looking at still water with nothing on the weather map. That's the one that was preceded by the Roxy ad of the mysterious woman (it was Steph, the new Roxy signing) rolling around in bed in her undies. They rescheduled the event to have it with the men's at Hossegor a few month's later.
Re: snapper pro
Hope so, I used to enjoy watching the contests now take a small interest but couldn't really care less unless the comp's on in mind-blowing surf like they had in Tahiti last year.Braithy wrote:

Braithy has written with power and precision on the topic at some length and that will be posted up at close of business today, ready for an evening read.
Here's my opening overview.

Only problem is monetising the online business model...
Sounds familiar.
The article was a bit like an origin game, Steve. Lots of passion at the start but a few errors creeping in, then some fancy footwork at the end

Re: snapper pro
It appears some of the sponsors (ie. BOQ) aren't real keen on it moving to D'Bah. Since all their advertising and infrastructure is at Snapper. Probably more concerned they can't sit in their corporate suite and drink piss all day.

With regards to your comments..."the sport is as boring as batshit in its current carnation"...I actually disagree, but recognise the spectacle that is pro surfing doesnt stand up to many other main stream sports, so if you were to pitch a format to the powers that be, what would it look like? Serious question, really would be interested to hear your ideas.steve shearer wrote:Braithy has written with power and precision on the topic at some length and that will be posted up at close of business today, ready for an evening read.

I have always found with sport what makes me interested is being emotionally connected to the outcome...and then I can watch pretty much anything...I stopped watching rugby league when I realised the team I was supporting were a bunch of complete cnuts...had no interest in whether they won or lost...now the game is completely boring to me. The Steph versus the young Miss McCauley heat yesterday was another good example...the surf was complete crap, as a spectacle it didnt rate at all...but I couldnt take my eyes off it...I was 20 minutes late for work because I had to see the outcome...thats because I love Steph as a surfer, a person...she is in my fantasy team...as well as other fantasies I wont discuss here...and I am genuinely hoping she can win another world title. So I loved the heat...paced the room head in hands counting down the clock...was another wave coming?? HA, there actually wasnt truth told...so I just conjured one up myself...I really shouldnt do that...but if I didnt Kelly would only have three world titles. Sorry, I digress...
Anyway, I think the new regime are making a deliberate effort to give us insights into the surfers themselves, and make them more accessible to us...that will make us care about them, and therefore take an interest in the product and its outcomes.

God couldn't you use your almighty power to turn fantasy into reality.Almighty God wrote: I love Steph as a surfer, a person...she is in my fantasy team...as well as other fantasies I wont discuss here...

Nice work Braithwaite.
And, Steve, I did like your piece, too. Just thought it needed a few more commas.
