*breathes out slowly from the nose* Inconsistency is the sole preserve of those of us who use ‘surfer feet’. It doesn’t need to be accurate because it’s just a ballpark, a suggestion. For the measurement ultras like you and Trev (who can forget his #sixfeetissixfeet campaign) it has to be the actual numbers otherwise you’re just doing what everyone else is doing and making it up, just in a slightly different way

I have no recollection of the photo in question.
I have no doubt what you say is true though.
However, because I expressed one opinion which apparently reinforced your position on the topic, you appear to happily ignore the fact that I have been consistently against the under calling of wave heights.
My (as you call it), sixfeetissixfeet campaign says it all
I'll be interested in seeing the photo.
I have always been wary of calling size off a photo because there are too many variables to take into account, not least of which is camera angle plus lens length.
And no three dimensional qualities either.
I normally would only give a size estimate when I can actually see the wave in real life.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

Nice attempted flip and redirect GST.

in response to this:
The surfline scale that foamy posted and that you were heartily endorsing, is in foamy’s words “When they say 1 foot, it equates to about 30 cms”.steve shearer wrote: ↑Tue Feb 20, 2024 11:58 amA waist high wave is 2ft tops.
Head high to just OH surf is 3-4ft.
Then when steve posted this G land wave
you agreed with his and the general forum estimate of it being 6ftish, when in actual feet it was demonstrably at least 12 feet.
So which is it beans? Do you use surfline scale or do you use iggy scale? Or does it depend how you’re feeling?

Re: How is wave height measured in Australia?
GST is getting on his high horse here. The righteous indignation.
Very nice to include that 30cm is approximately a foot
“You seem to switch from one measurement to the other.”
Oh, no. How very dare you.
That’s because Steve is on it.
It’s whatever size GST says it is…..give our take a few feet.
If you say it’s 12 feet then it’s 12 feet GST.*
Clip says 6 to 9.

Re: How is wave height measured in Australia?
Personally I hate surfing anything double-overhead because it's just too much paddling effort for someone more amply proportioned like myself as the currents and wave speed just get too much.
Overhead or below thank you very much, I get way more enjoyment

I’ve heard girth is much more important than height anyway.

Re: How is wave height measured in Australia?
I don’t mind a bit of size if it’s a rolling take off. Definitely get out of the habit at Bondi because the sets invariably pitch and closeout 95% of the time. Realistically I can’t take a flogging like I used to though.
