I surfed Bower at high tide. Pretty manageable as the south swell was acute so way smaller than the madness at DY and Curlie. Still well overhead and plenty of push from the long period.Hatchnam wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2024 9:36 amDid anyone in the Sydney region surf yesterday? Following a bush walk yesterday in RNP I stopped in at voodoo in the afternoon coming off high tide. Looked to be at least 8 foot of strong south groundswell hammering through. From suck rock thru to voodoo rights was a a total closeout. And the lefts were shifting deep, then wide, unpredictable as all fk. The merries reefs it looked like someone was towing in off the far rights.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Incredible how solid that S groundswell was down there, and almost a total no-show up here.
Would have expected 4-5ft surf at the Point.
It's weak 2ft with the very odd 3-4ft set.
Tradewind swell was bigger through the week.

I was stunned how it jacked mid arvo. Had a look mid morning and it was lucky to be 4 foot, then saw footage of DY just after lunch and it was big. By late arvo, it was out of control.
Probably due to the acute nature and the long period but you could see the lines bending away from the coast down here so not as surprised it didn’t reach up there.

It was here- long period S swell.
You could see the lines in the water and on the wave buoy.
Just so attenuated and weak.
Could have easily rockfished the most exposed spots here today.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
It was 4ft and pumping at Wall yesterday then dropped, back to 4ft there today but small, weak and scrappy elsewhere.
I waited half an hr for a 3ft set at the point.

When I checked the buoys, I think the direction was from 185 degrees . Period was something like 16 seconds so a massive number for our area.

I've definitely heard stories and there's a few hotheads still around.Grooter wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2024 8:52 amNah not at Pleasure Point. Seen a few arguments but nothing that constitutes localism
Steamer Lane has a bit more of that vibe.but never experienced it personally
I'd say it's a reputation from a past era - apparently Santa Cruz has changed a lot in the last 10 years..Lots of cashed up tech workers moved there and house prices have skyrocketed changing the demographics.
My boss is a 20+ year local who has been sent in by Flea and the crew, said boss is 6'2" and 120kgs and has surfed a lot on Maui so he's not a shrinking violet.
In addition to the influx of tech bros there's been a big shift in demographics. Lots more women, kids and people of colour. That changed the vibe a lot.
I'm actually working on a project on barriers to entry to surfing in Santa Cruz.

Your boss has a BMI of 34, classifying him as obese ... have a quiet word with the fat fuck.
The moving finger writes and having writ moves on ... now all thy piety nor wit shall lure it back to cancel even half a line ... nor all thy tears wash out a single word of it.

There were plenty of people at the place old mate Nick refers to as a southern central coast river mouth.
